Newby - Surgery Done!

I've waited a few days after my Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy to introduce myself as I wanted to be able to share both the pain and the pleasure I've had during and after surgery. As for the pain...it was a lot less than I really expected, helped along of course by a good regime of drugs and great in-hospital care. I came home the following day after having aced my swallow test. I tried to be in good health going in so I'm sure that, and my "cup half full" attitude helped a lot. Once home I've followed the prescribed diet pretty closely, but I've been a little brave and tried a few additions. My one hot spot is the protein shakes are getting old quickly, but that's just part of the plan I figure. It's now5 days after surgery and I feel like I could get back to my full old routine, but I (along with my dear Wife's encouragement) am forcing myself to take the time to fully recover. All in all, it's going well, I'm back on my Elliptical, though a lower level of workout, and I am now fully off the pain meds (last night I gave in just to take the edge off as I has some paiin while trying to go to sleep. I'm note a prolific writer, but, after reading some of the comments here I just wanted to share the beginning of my new life with you all. By the way, I put on a pair of jean shorts today that have been waiting for over a year in my drawer...they fit perfectly!!

Getting to the surgery actually was the hardest part...lots of hoops to jump through what with the (mine anyway) requirements to see a Psychologist, Pulmonologist, Exercise Therapist, Dietician, and even a sleep study (I passed!). I really think my main plus going in was that I worked really hard to get into as good a physical state as I could. Now I'm finding that, even shortly after surgery, I can still exercise without pain and actually want too! I'm 7 days out now and I'm afraid I'm going to get bored being home from work another week, but I think it's the right thing to do. I'd rather be bored than be sore and tired once I do go back to work.

    Good luck!
