Grad Students?

I know we're all pressed for time but I feel like grad school students may have a different bent on things.
I lived a mostly sedentary lifestyle between UG and GS, which I started in May, and I undid all the progress I had made in my weight loss goals towards the end of UG and then some. I've been reinvigorated back into making fitness a priority by a lot of life changes - starting school, ending an engagement, being in a new town, etc. etc. I quit smoking a little more than a month ago, and I fully committed myself to diet&exercise for weight loss purposes on September 29 and lost 7 pounds in the first 2 weeks.
I would love motivation and similarly situated friends! Midterms are coming up for me, and last semester I didn't really have time to shower, let alone make it to the gym and stay within my calorie goals. I have a strong suspicion I'll be relying heavily on lean cuisine for the next 2 weeks (which I hate because I love cooking!) and lugging my books to the gym with me.
I just started using MFP but I think it's exactly what I need to hold myself accountable. Would love to make some friends while I'm at it

I'm a grad student! And I'm currently working full time... so I'm flat out hahah. Trying so hard to keep eating healthy and working out but it's definitely difficult. Anyone can add me0

I am in my last semester of a 3.5 year dual masters degree program, so I understand! I quit smoking while in grad school (2 years ago last month!), and gained a LOT of weight, so here I am! Feel free to add me, as I am always looking for new supportive friends0

I'm not in grad school, but I am a third year vet student, which doesn't leave me much free time either! I've been great about going to the gym 4-5x/week and running 3x/week since school started this year.... but I am definitely behind in my schoolwork as a result. It's so hard to balance everything! I'm not looking forward to being on clinical rotations next year either, when we'll be at school for 12 hours a day AND expected to study on top of that.
I DO plan to eventually do a masters and PhD after I finish vet school though, so I guess I am just a sucker for punishment.0 -
Im currently writing my thesis, and it is very hard not to keep food in my mouth, getting quality sleep with all the stress and enjoying the time at the gym thinking about deadlines.
But I usually grab my belly fat while reading and it is so great to feel it shrinking while the number of pages grow! LOL
It is definitely doable! MFP really helps controlling your eating, and with healthy procrastination! Always remember that you deserve to take a little time to log your food!0 -

I used to be a grad student 20 years ago; worked full-time hours between 2 jobs as a waitress and intern while I went to school full time. Since then I've been everything from a firm partner, Director of HR and Legal, mom of 4, belly dancer, spin instructor, and ballroom dance instructor.
I'd like to let you know that you have more time now than you are ever going to have in the future. Once real life hits, your head will spin.
BTW, if you ever have 4 little kids to feed, bathe and dress in addition to yourself, you will laugh about that statement you made about not having time to shower now when you're single.0 -
I'm so glad I found your post. I finish my MA in counseling in December (Praise the Lord!). It has taken me 7 years because I started out taking one class at a time. However, for the last four semesters I've been going full time. I am also a full time teacher, mom, and wife. I feel your pain. I have gained and lost so much weight over the last 7 years. I recently lost 31 pounds on the Duke Diet just to gain back 12 in ten days. I lost 66 pounds using a medication from my doctor and gained all of it back. I've done Weight Watchers, Slim For Life, Atkins, South Beach, Dr. Phil, Dr. Oz, The Weigh down diet, Body by God, Heart Healthy etc... I lose on all of them and then gain it all back.
I went to buy my graduation gown yesterday and the standard one size fits all wouldn't zip on me. That did it. I was mortified in front of a huge room of people and it hit me hard. I've got 2 months to attempt to make a dent in this mess I've created.0 -
I hear ya! I am getting my master's...all I do is SIT and STUDY! There is cellulite in places I never thought possible (KNEES< WTF?) I know that I have to change my lifestyle...I saw my advisor last Tuesday and I am set to graduate 2014 and damnit I want to look good in my cap and gown (and not have to order a plus size gown like I did for my undergrad which was wrapped in bright orange plastic that said "PLUS SIZE" all over it...awesome, thanks for the reminder!)0

PhD here, 4th year. My weight has fluctuated so much during grad school- 110-145!
I tend to lose weight and gain weight very quickly. Looking to practise a healthier lifestyl but it's super difficult on a grad school schedule.
