Lowering calories

I have been on a 1500 cal a day and exercising at 500 deficit. I have only lost 3 lbs since i started 3 months ago. I have tried to up my calories and nothing. Whenever i up my cal i gain weight. So now i am working out doing weights with a trainer and have decided to just keep my calories at 1200 a day. So its 1200 cal, hike and hour 4x a week and weight train with a trainer 3x a week. I know some of you will say thats too little, but i have been battling this battle for too long. I watch what i eat, eat enough carbs where its not too much, basically fruits and veggies.

I am 57, 5'7 and weigh 183. I have always been active but the exercise has never made a difference. I am desperate.

Wow, I am 5'8" , 54 years old and eat 1350 a day (before exercise calories are deducted).. I eat back my exercise calories now that I am trying to maintain some days. Other days it's a struggle to get the 1300 ish goal met.

To be honest, sticking to 1200-1400 calories is what got the weight off and is keeping it off. I started on the Dukan diet, but have counted calories the whole time. I still maintain the dukan diet which is pretty liberal on the mainteneance (stabilization phase).

It's hard to find the right nutrition plan, I struggled till last December and then hit on it. It seems so different for everyone. The recurring theme seems to be log your food, and eat less and be more active.

    PS... I wear 131 now

So, are you saying that you eat 1000 net calories per day? Try not to go below 1200 net calories and see what happens. Your calories may be too low. Also, just be patient. Lots of us get stuck for weeks at a time and then, as another MFP poster said, whoosh! It all evens out.

I will eat about 1200 and exercise. Lower my carb intake and see what happens.

If you are saying that you will eat about 1700 calories and exercise away 500 and end up with 1200 eaten you are ok. You need 1200 minimum calories after exercise.
