Hi guys and girls,
I am 18, Male, 5ft 10 and weigh 74kgs.

Basically I used to play a good standard of football "soccer" :D and I let myself go when I moved away so now I am not "fat" per say but I have a bit of a belly and just generally want to get to being fit again and hopefully even maybe have that "beach" body we all crave!

I have set a limit of 1600 calories a day? as well as at least 30mins cardio until I join the gym and start doing some weight training to get me started.

Does 1600 sound a lot or too little? also my cardio is going to be a medium paced run for around 4miles.

I have been doing some reading around and many talk about all the different videos out there eg Ripped in 30, Insanity Workout. Should I be look at doing this instead of a run every night?

Thanks for reading and I hope you can help a novice in dieting and exercising.

Way too low for you - especially if you are planning to do anything more than laying in bed not moving at all during the entire day. Read the stickies at the top..especially the "Newbies Please READ ME (2nd edition)". Find the 'roadmap' by helloitsdan and start there.
  • Ya I'd say that's too low! Like you said, you are not overweight at all. Do some more research in a good calorie level for you needs!

As far as the videos, from my understanding they are not only cardio so it might be more beneficial for your goals than simply running!

I wouldn't go that low, at least not initially. I would start around 2,000, and adjust downward if needed.

Use the site to enter your goals and it will automatically set a calorie goal for you. Good luck!
  • Thanks guys for the quick replies. I will up my calorie intake to 2000 which seems a pretty normal level for my needs the more I look at it, thanks Fire_Rock and Stephanie. Then like you say I can see if I need to change it.

I have actually read through those posts in the "Newbies Please READ ME (2nd edition)" and it did help with some questions otherwise this post would be very very long :)

I have joined the roadmap by helloitsdan. What is my next step?
Is there a guide or something on there I have missed?

    Thanks guys again.
