Extra hungry day after "cheat/splurge"?

So yesterday was sort of a free day for me. I have eliminated a lot of extra dairy/starches. Cleaned up the eating. Carbs mostly from veggies etc. This keeps my days pretty low cal since it's the sugars/starches that really add extra cals to your diet! One day a week is sort of a free day for me where I loosen up the reigns. It was Oktoberfest yesterday, so with my family I enjoyed all that good stuff. Brat, pretzel, strudel etc. Well today I'm more hungry than normal. Did having the high cal day rev my metabolism back up? Is there a reason for this phenomenon? I'm very happy getting back to my normal routine today, but after both my classes today (I teach group ex) I was super hungry!

Thoughts? Thanks!

I don't know the answer, but I get the same effect. Every time I've fallen off the wagon, I find that it takes a few days before I'm not hungry all the time. Usually I can stay under my daily allowance and be full all the time, but not after a crap day.

I had a "cheat" day yesterday and today I have been extra hungry, hoping tomorrow I will feel back to normal because I have found it quite hard today not to overeat again. Makes me wonder if "cheat" days are worth it for me!

Or maybe you are hungry because your eating low cal? how low is low cal? Your body may have just gotten excited to finally have some calories to run on for once.

Or you could just have ate stuff that all air and no substance, thus leading you to be extra hungry today.

Yes. I'm really glad to hear that I'm not the only one feeling this way today. Splurged a bit yesterday....apple pie, candy corn M&Ms. Today I just want to eat! I'm not actually hungry, more like mentally feel like eating. It's a bit disappointing after feeling like my appetite was under control.

same thing happens to me too!
  • Hmmm that's interesting. I have had regular "cheat days" throughout my weightloss and have never experienced abnormal or excess hunger after. The only time I have felt extra hungry is when I slip and don't eat enough. I guess we are all just different.

Hunger is based on several physical and mental factors, it's almost impossible to pinpoint one specific reason.

THIS! I mentally feel like eating too. My days are low cal because they are super clean. Massive salad with chicken, egg, avocado, veggies. Egg whites, almonds etc. I eat numerous times a day and have a Shakeology every day. I'm usually ok. But yesterday was very high carb/sugar and my body is almost buzzing from it.

Good topic because I've felt this same feeling twice and it does come after a high cal weekend. I will say that those weekends were low in protein and I I'm used to eating a 30% protein diet. I don't feel at all hungry "today" after a big eating weekend but maybe that's because my protein was ok?

The only other factor I've pinpointed for me is my cycle. I've narrowed down that those two times of intense hunger happened 9-10 days before my period started. I may have ovulation hunger? LOL I'm totally fine the week prior and of my TOM. So strange.

I think it's neat that we can know our bodies better through trial and error.

I always experience that but I often attribute it to something I've done with my blood sugar. I'm not an expert, but that's what it feels like to me.

I think it has to do with carbohydrates. You eat low carb and your body doesn't get hungry (I recently went low carb for PCOS). I was constantly "hungry" before this and since then, am not. When I do have some carbs, I realize that they make me feel more hungry than I actually am and make me crave more.
