How healthy is it really? I have about 60 lbs of ground venison in my freezer that we have been eating atleast twice a week. It is home made with 15% beef fat. Typically drain the fat before eating.

with 15% it's pretty much like eating hamburger.
I have some with 1% beef fat in it. When you have the deer processed you can ask for less fat in the ground meat.0 -
I always thought it was pretty healthy. Its really lean. I actually had it for dinner last night0

I don't know the technical answer to that but we don't ever purchase ground beef anymore as my husband is an avid hunter. We do not add any beef fat in the packaging however. I think you only really need that if you are making hamburger pattys and really want the added fat and flavoring. Venison is typically very lean. I like to use it because the fat content is much lower and the calories end up less than ground chuck because of its leanness. Sorry tho - I feel like it is healthier but I can't tell you why.0

We actually grind the venison ourselves and add no fat, purely venison. If I want to make hamburger patties or meatballs I add half a pound of hamburger or sausage to 1 pound of venison. The venison itself works great in dishes with broken burger, like sloppy joes or taco meat. Venison is very lean and I also consider it to be healthy.0
