Chihuahuas

Lots of yapping and ankle biting?

I have 2 chihuahua mix dogs. They don't bark too too much, mostly because I have taught them not to.
My boy is very protective of me and both dogs are very jealous of each other. If my boyfriend is hugging me or rubbing my shoulders or anything similar, the dog tries to get in between and will even sit there and growl at him! It isn't a menacing growl, it's more like a jealous groaning noise. It kinda cracks me up!
My girl jumps high! Like up onto my kitchen counters high! I don't know if that is because of some other bread she has in her though.
Both dogs can get a tad bit nippy if they are uncomfortable with how close someone is to them, especially to their face. They're a little nervous around small kids.
They are both very loyal and follow me around, like right at my heels, ALL THE TIME!! Not sure if that is a breed trait or if it's because of their past (we adopted them from the humane society).
They don't like being left alone, but they have each other for company so they survive.

Overall, they aren't as yappy and high strung as I was afraid they would be. I think a lot depends on how their owners treat them and train them to behave. Mine are loyal, lovable, cuddley dogs.

Any breed of dog needs boundries from day 1! What ever you don't want the dog doing (barking, being on furnitar or what have you) Don't allow once. Lots of exercise makes for well behaved dogs any breed or size you have. Crate training is a wonderful thing-my 2 dogs now 9 and 10 LOVE their crate and I cannot take it away. A crate should never be used as punishment. Pee-pee pads confuse dogs if you don't plan to use them their whole life. I work at a doggie daycare/boarding facility and a well crate trained/socialized dog are the happiest campers we have! The same training you put into your boxer should go into your new puppy. I can't say your new friend will be like this but... This little guy runs the house and gods forbid anyone even think about stepping foot on his porch. He will bark and growl and look as ferocious as he can, up until the point that someone pets him, then he becomes their best friend =]

At my sons Mom's house there is a half Pitbull mixed with what looks like a lab, and a crazy/evil gizzy dog who I would have no problem believing was half Tasmanian Devil, but they both bow before his Royal Chewiness =]

It will be a scooby snack for the boxer. Be prepared to punt it over the fence.

Im dog sitting 2 other them right....they bark at the SLIGHTEST noise they are unsure of.

My little babies think they're guard dogs, but they're more along the lines of car alarms. Noisy and not much of a deterrent to anyone wanting to create any mischief.

I used to hate this breed, but I moved in with my bf and his two rescued Chihuahuas and now I'm their doting stepmother. I love them because they're not really trained and bossy and stubborn and it's ok because they're like seven pounds.

The little boy is named Busted, because he's kind of an *kitten* and gets into everthing, and the girl, Pino, is more stuffed animal than dog and I love her so much.

They're cool dogs.

They shake a lot, when they are cold, excited, scared. They shake (almost like a shiver). It's normal. Most usually like to sleep burrowed all the way under a blanket too.
