I drink a lot of coffee and I am trying to figure out what is the best /healthiest kind of sugar to use in it. Should I use regular sugar? Splenda? Stevia?

I use Truvia, and really like the taste and the fact that 1 packet is good for a 16 oz. cup of coffee. Hope this helps...

Don't substitute. That's my personal philosophy on it. I've never used Splenda, Stevia, Nutrasweet or anything of the like. Raw sugar is slightly better for you than white granulated sugar because it's less processed. Sugar is sugar though. Just try and cut it down, but I wouldn't substitute.

have you tried sucanat? It's pure and unprocessed and delicious!
  • I use Stevia, which is a natural herb. It is calorie free. Good luck!!

Now granted I usually only have 1 cup (like a measured cup of coffee and 1/4 cup of milk w 1tsp of sugar) a day, I own the sugar i add to my coffee. I know for those who are having multiple cups a day you are then consuming that much more sugar.

I have a view that I won my foods that I eat. So if I am having sugar I use white sugar or brown sugar for cereals.

Same with cheats, when I cheat I 100% commit to the cheat and have chips or lather my popcorn in butter. We sometimes fool ourselves by using subsitutes or low cal items to make us feel better about using sugar or cheating. But then you are fooling yourself into thinking you are doing something better for your body thus you are likely to over indulge this way. i.e its ok to have 3 diet cokes cuz its diet, own your coke drinking and own the 160 cals in one regular coke.
  • Stevia. Substitutes is a scary topic

    Thanks for all the advice!

I like MirandaJayne's view of treating food as if it were something that you won. Maybe I will make every cup (after my cup on the commute to work) a "reward".
