Anyone else out there training for the police academy?

I've recently applied for a job with the PA state police in the hopes of getting a job in the next year and a half after I graduate. I know on top of the background check, psych testing, and other exams there's a physical fitness assessment that you must pass. I've looked at the requirements for the exam and I'm confident that I could complete the test and pass. However, I want to blow that test out of the water. Is anyone else here on MFP training for the police academy or currently in the academy? I'd like to hear your training tips. I'm currently strength training each muscle group 2 times a week and doing cardio (at least some) everyday.

I'm not currently training for a police academy, but I did once. We had to pass a physical agility test to get hired, but at the academy, there were lots of pushups/situps/running. Oh, and bear crawls. And some hills. Then some hills with bear crawls.

Prior to the academy, I did 3 days a week of weight lifting and 2 days of running. I ran hills because I lived in the country and that's what I had. I didn't really know anything about lifting. I went to the gym with my dad, and we did some routine he had picked up in the 80's when he hired a personal trainer for a bit.

If I had known about it at the time, I would have done Crossfit. Otherwise, as long as you push yourself, you should be fine. If it's anything like our academy was, your lungs and muscles will be burning no matter how much you try to prepare. Good luck. Be safe.
