New to the gym.. don't know what to do

I have just joined a gym on Saturday, and I have been every day since then.. One day I worked with a personal trainer (one free complimentary session- can't really afford it reguarly), one day I did Yoga and tried to work out with my boyfriend, and then the third day I went to cycling class. I am okay as long as there is a class, but tonight I am going late when all the classes are over.
Does anyone have a good training program for women? I am looking to lose about 2-3 pants sizes and gain some muscle. My boyfriend (ex body builder) gets frustrated with me easily in the gym (so far anyways, we have tried twice) because I have no idea what I want to do or how much weight I need.
Any ideas?

Check your local library or Amazon for the book "The New Rules of Lifting for Women" by Lou Schuler. It's an awesome program! Here's the link to a group of women who are following the program. Provides great support and motivation!

I second that. I haven't done this program myself (I have done Starting Strength, however, which is a great beginner lifting program, though not geared specifically towards women) but I have heard it recommended over and over by many women lifters.0 -
If your boyfriend is an ex bodybuilder and is getting frustrated that you don't know the weight you need that's his problem. First thing I can say is that gaining muscle will be easy if you've never seriously trained before, you'll see an increase in as little as the first 6 weeks. Second thing is don't be afraid of weight training, a common fear of women is that they don't wanna look huge and like a man, when that is biologically almost impossible, even after years of training.
There are dozens of programs out there for people looking to get in shape, I don't know a whole lot of female workouts (I'm a guy soooo I haven't looked into the female side much). Another myth that you shouldn't fall into is that working a specific area of your body will make you lose fat there faster. That is completely false.
If you have any other questions, I would be happy to try and walk through some stuff with you
Here's a site with some great workouts for women: http://www.muscleandstrength.com/workouts/women.html0
