just curious if i did the HIIT right or not..

heres what i did:
on elliptical.. did a warmup
started my hour... "sprinted" with an 8 resistance and 10 incline for 30 seconds
rested with a "light jog" for 90 seconds with 10 incline 6 resistance... did this for 20 minutes.

did a 10 incline 6 resistance "light jogging" speed for 20 minutes (no interval sprinting for 20 min)

and for the last 20 minutes i did the sprinting/light jog rest thing again.

so, did i do it right??

As long as the sprints were ALL OUT, that sounds fine to me! HIIT should test your will, every time, to get the full effect. If you're pushing on every one of those 30 second sprints, giving it all you've got, then yeah, that right there is a perfectly fine HIIT workout.

oh yes the sprints were ALL OUT... sweat was rolling down my face already during the second sprint. go hard or go home!
  • the sweat may have been rolling but were you actually out of breath with no more energy to give at each sprint?

did you feel like you had to have your recovery period or you would die, throw up or both? if you werent breathing properly you will feel your windpipe burining ;)

i would have ditched the 20 mins of endurance running for an endurance running session and had a five min recovey period before doing the intervals again. and again - untill you had no choice but to crawl home

hahah i was pretty exhausted.. out of breath, pretty much gasping after those 30 seconds each time. by the end of my workout i barely made it through the last 2 sprints
ill try out what you suggested.. still new to this :)

    Looks good to me.
I think two sets of 10 like you did is plenty. To progress I'd up the intensity when you feel ready rather than making the sessions longer.
