Do your ribs hurt when you run?

I have been running for awhile and I find that my upper ribs hurt a lot the day after a long run. It feels like someone used me as a punching bag.

Anyone have any ideas as to what this could be from? Some days, it really hurts...just to breathe!

Are you wearing a really good sports bra? That would be my first thought. Or does the one you have need replacing?

If you 'wobble' about, it will feel uncomfortable across the whole of your ribcage.

I second that, as a big dude when I started running I had a similar problem.

Depends on what kind of pain. If it feels like a muscular pain similar to how your legs get after a run (I'm assuming they would, I don't run! lol) then I would definitely agree with the above posters :) However if it is a sharp, actual rib pain, see your doc. Do you have asthma or some other type of COPD? I have asthma and especially in the colder weather I get a lot of "rib" pain. It could be a number of (very minor!) things :)

I think it is a bra issue...just wanted another "opinion" from people who run. It isn't a side stick or a sharp pain. It just feels bruised the next day on the surface above the ribs....but it is DIRECTLY under each breast. I wear a D cup, so it is a very real possibility, I guess.

I will have to see what other supportive bras I can find. I ran tonight with a sports bra and a sports shirt that also has a built in bra to see if it helps....I will find out tomorrow! :)

    Thank you!

I am small chested but my ribs ache a day or two after I run. I think it is from breathing heavy and stretching the tissues between my ribs.

My obliques hurt after I run, but I move my arms across my body. Could it be your abs?

Sounds like a side stitch to me. I get them sometimes when I run. It feels like a really sharp, intense pain under my rib cage.
