Do you lift "heavy" weights (heavy for you): I was but haven't for a few weeks... no particular reason, I just need to get back into it. I've noticed a massive difference in my body since I've stopped.

    Hi there everyone!!!

    Height: 5'2

    Age: 38

    Weight: 97

Calories eaten per day (average): 2000

Net calories eaten per day (if following MFPs method): 1690

Total workout hours per week: I workout 6 days a week around 1 hour per day.

Do you lift "heavy" weights (heavy for you): Well heavy for me is around 20 lb weights. I currently workout to P90X

  • Give the following info:

MFP suggests 1660 calories for maintenance - I usally get between 1400-1600, sometimes more, sometimes less - but they balance each other out (i add up for the week and am usually within 500 calories of my weekly goal)

Total workout hours per week: since switching to maintenance i have only been working out 2-3 days per week - before i was doing at least 5 days per week

Do you lift "heavy" weights (heavy for you): no

I have been on maintenance for 56 days and have not gained back any weight

This thread couldn't have come at a better time and I'm shocked to see the responses so far, I need some serious advise as I feel I need / want to eat more. Here are my stats

    Height: 5'2

    Age: 29

    Weight: 102 - 103

Calories eaten per day: average roughly 1300

Net calories per day according to MFP: roughly between 1050 - 1160

Total workout hours per week: minimum 3 x 50 minutes bokwa classes. Roughly 3 hours per week walking/jogging

    Lift heavy weights: no

So I've successfully maintained over the past month eating at the above, I make very good choices 90% of the time, my weakness is dark chocolate in the evening or some small treat but no alcohol, rarely any bread, rice, pasta. Lots of chicken, tuna, eggs, salad, veggies, rolled oats, Greek yoghurt etc

Surely I should be able to eat more than this, I'm not overly fit as I'm still a smoker (yes I know-trust me) but I try to move as often as I can, walked 4 miles with the dog today, classes 3 times by the end of the week and starting back with 30DS tomorrow. I have a desk job so sit most of the day but make up for this in the evening.

Looking at some of your responses I can't believe you can eat 2000 cal's a day and maintain how do you do it?

Heavy Weights: 3x per week. Just finishing up Chalean Extreme and moving on to NROLW

Not really trying to lose weight, I really just want to lose fat and gain muscle. I think it's working because the scale has stayed pretty steady for the past couple of months, but my clothes fit better and I don't feel as soft

Oh my--I wouldn't even eat 1300 to lose weight. I think the best thing to do it to slowly increase your calories--say 100 per week--until you've arrived at 1300-1500 NET CALORIES. You might gain some water/food weight but not more than 2-3 pounds.

How are all of you tiny girls eating so many calories and still weighing so little?
  • How are all of you tiny girls eating so many calories and still weighing so little?

The body is incredibly adaptive and eating so little generally causes you to maintain on so little--the metabolic rate will decrease to compensate for the lack of calories and further and further restriction is required to lose additional weight. I think fueling your body will teach your body to maintain on more calories.

i know upping calories sounds REALLY scary but if you keep adding about 200 a week, and you are lifting heavy, you will most likely just build muscle, and the process wont be that quick, so your mind will have to time to adjust to it. you guys can do it!
  • I second @shortie. It seems scarier than it is! It does get easier with time though!
