I am getting a small tattoo on my ribs. I weigh 180 now. My goal weight is 140. Will my tattoo look the same after I lose weight?

Replies

  • No. It will look smaller.
  • I'd wait until you're at your goal weight. In addition to being smaller, the surface of your skin will have a different 'shape' after losing the weight, changing the appearance in and of itself. It may have 'stretched' more along one direction than another as well, making it appear stretched or squished.

It can pull double duty if one does this, by encouraging her to work out rather than have that heart on her hip look more like a tomato, for example.

I'd wait until you're at (or near) goal weight. Not everything looks better as you lose weight!

Plus, it could be a nice little present to yourself for your accomplishment.

Definitely wait. I got a round tat on the inside of my wrist 135lbs ago. It isn't quite as round anymore.

I have a similar concern. My tattoo is going along my ribs and onto my my stomach. I think it really depends how your stomach is shaped right now. If you're carrying a lot of weight in that area it might be a good idea to wait another 20lbs

You could use that goal as motivation.

I dont see my waist & stomach getting much smaller, but my hips will. So I'm waiting a bit longer.

Don't want to spoil the party but what happens if next year you relapse and gain an extra 50?

i would definitely hold off until you get to your goal.

i have three tattoos, luckily I got them all in areas where fat has never been an issue and if there's any shrinkage after weight loss, it will be barely noticeable (wrist, upper back, tailbone). My next one is going to be going down the back of my neck, where fat is also not an issue, but I'm waiting for another 20 pounds to come off before that happens as a reward to myself. I'll be waiting on any others like my upper arms, legs, etc. until they're toned and slim the way I want them to be.
