sick with..mono.

So, I was sick for two weeks and for some reason, doctors didn't know what was going on. I wasn't excessively tired, but I noticed my workouts became a lot harder and my throat was hurting a lot. I had pretty high fevers. The first few days I tried to ignore it. Then I got sicker, so I took a day or two off. But then, I wasn't getting better, no matter what I did, so I figured, why not work out? It made me feel better momentarily and didn't really make me feel worse. I figured I wasn't getting better, so no point in getting out of shape and being sick at the same time. Well, I'm still not better. I got diagnosed with mono 2 days ago, and the day before that I passed out for the first time while I was in the middle of lab, and I have no idea why. I've tried to eat more at maintenance level since I thought I was sick, but some days, I really didn't feel like it.
However, I've noticed, that since I passed out, and my birthday my appetite has greatly increased. I decided to stay home and rest, not go to class, or workout for a good few days in order to facilitate some recovery. I've been eating healthy (since my birthday, that is), but I'm so hungry all the time! I don't think it's from boredom. I've tried to limit junk, particularly ice cream (although it feels so good on the throat..). I've been drinking a ton too, but I feel RAVENOUSLY hungry. I'm confused, because everything I see says you're supposed to lose your appetite with mono. But I haven't! Is this a sign I need more food? Does anyone have any experience with this? I honestly don't care about weight loss at this point--I mean I'd prefer to not gain, but I just want to get better!

I had mono in HS and I was so tired I would have to nap between showering and getting dressed.
Maybe focus on eating better and only exercise lightly (walking etc) as you have the energy to... Trust me don't exerte yourself if you don't have to it will only make recovery take that much longer... I learned that the hard way ... went back to sports and such tooo early cuz i didn't want to miss out but took me MONTHS to get back to normal.
Good Luck0 -
maybe? better than getting it from a person, wouldn't ya say?0

I disagree. I'd rather get it from making out with a person. But hey, we all have our own things. Who am I to judge if beastiality is yours?0 -

haha well it could have been from a person too. the dolphin was a couple months ago, so yeah.0 -
I got glandular fever (mono) right after my final year 12 exams, and I was completely bed ridden for 4 months. I spent most of my time asleep, had trouble walking from my bedroom directly across the hallway to the bathroom, and had to have a chair in the shower because I couldn't stand up long enough to get clean. I honestly don't remember eating anything for the entire 4 months (obviously I ate, but I just don't remember it). I do know I was never hungry, but drank water and gatorade whenever I was awake. It's been seven years and it still affects me at this time of year.0

I'm still recovering from mono, I had no appetite for over a month but after that it came back and I was ravenous. I think it's just your body trying to heal itself, I have to make sure I eat VERY well - mostly veggies and lean protein and I feel a LOT better! I've also been taking vitamin B and an Omega 3-6-9 and have seen a difference in how I feel with that, and the healthy diet (the diet is the biggest thing, if I eat crap like McDonald's I feel incredibly sick!). Good luck getting better!0

My sister had mono for 6 months. Best thing I would say, and I would do this myself would be (note... not as a medic, just as a friend) would be to drink lots of water and rest. Eat for nutrition but don't beat yourself up if you eat more unhealthy during this time. Mono will kick your butt, and trust me you are burning off a ton of extra calories from being ill. If you are craving something during an illness it is usually your body telling you it needs something, so listen!
P.S. Instead of ice cream for your throat, try frozen yogurt! OR better yet, PET brand fudge bars (fat free and only 100 calories per bar!). Southern home (Bi-Lo brand) has fudge bars as well for 80 calories and fat free.0
