Need a non-caloric distraction!

I'm a stress-eater (as well as a boredom-eater, a pleasure-eater, an over-eater, an everything-eater), and I am trying to avoid the default bad habits I have/had. A little while ago, I found out that a friend had cancer, but she was doing well. Sadly, a few days ago, she really took a turn for the worse and is likely to pass soon. From diagnosis to this has only been about two months, and I am unspeakably sad. Anyway, it used to be my habit to dive into chocolate or chips or something yummy to soothe my sadness, but I don't want to compound her tragedgy with (admittedly minor) one of my own.
I can't exercise too much because of an injury, so help me out with distractions, won't you please? What do you do in this situation? Or how about a funny story? Anything would help. Thanks.

I read, knit while watching tv. Paint. Moving your hands is helpful. So are things that are physically or mentally exhausting. Channel your feelings into something productive maybe to benefit your friend? Perhaps using weightloss as wag to honor their memory.0

Personally, I find MFP quite distracting. I keep going back to it and reading posts. It's informative and entertaining. As for funny stories . . . I took my first run outside in the dark this morning. I took my dog to an enclosed field that is more commonly referred to as a dog park. I ran while he "hoovered" the dog park. Maybe this was funnier when I was there, but I thought I'd try. I was dismayed to find, however, that running in grass gets you wet shoes and socks and that you might step in some surprises at the dog park.
Perhaps, as trite as this sounds, try journaling about what you're experiencing. Sometimes riding the waves of the sadness is challenge enough -- and probably most productive. Sadness has its place in our lives. Take good care of yourself and honor your friendship. That's what's important now. I wish you comfort in a time of distress.0 -

LOL. I don't know that I'll indulge in those kinds of "games", especially since I'm at work, but thanks for the laugh!
And thanks for the thoughts and suggestions... MFP is definitely a good distraction. Like this now.0 -

No, but whatever floats your boat.0
