Okay, so recently, I've been increasing my calories from the usual 1200 by about 200-300 on some days along with more gym time and strength training in hopes of breaking a plateau. My problem is, the past week Ive woken up feeling/looking (for lack of better description) puffy. My face mostly eyes and cheeks look swollen and I feel bloated. Could this mean I'm eating too much sodium? Or has anyone experienced this by increasing their daily calories? I know that with strength training, sometimes muscles hold onto water, but my face? Any help is appreciated!

Are you certain it's not from allergies or anything like that?

I take a probiotic and it cuts down on the bloat. I don't know about your face, though.
  • Id I go heavy on the sodium I see it in my face the next day, drink that water up!

    Sodium!!!!!!!

If you are weight training your muscles retain water to heal. So if you are eating excess sodium AND lifting - you will feel/look bloated.

    1) Reduce sodium (stay under 2500) I know for *me* I need to stay between 1500-2000 or I get bloated. So
    2) Drink more water. Min. 80oz a day

I am certainly no professional but that does not sound like it would be related to an increase in calories, especially just a few hundred

I TRY to keep my sodium at or below 2500. When I go over 3000 my fingers and toes blow up!

thank you! I thought sodium could be the major culprit. lately, I have been looking into gluten free options, as people have also said this can cause bloating for some people.

I am having the same problem. I drink a ton of water, easily 80-100 oz per day and I've been taking a daily allergy med. The puffiness is only around the top of my cheek bones. I think my sodium levels are fine, but I will track them more carefully.
