When I drink tea I add two teaspoons of sugar-is it bad?

Because I *cannot* have tea without some sugar. I only have 1-2 cups of tea a day, and the other foods I eat have a low-mid amount of sugar in them, so it's not like I'm overloading.
Is it healthy/ok to continue doing this or should I reduce the amount to one tea spoon? :frown:
Edit-The tea I drink is chamomile, the brand I buy is caffiene free.

I wouldn't say it is 'bad', I mean we all have our vices! Just be aware that there is ~32kcal in each teaspoon on sugar...so you may be adding an extra 60-120kcal of empty calories to your daily intake......have you tried sweeteners?! I used to depend on sugar in my coffee, but I found a sweetener I liked and never looked back :P0

Any way that you can cut out sugar is a good thing. Chamomile is pretty tasty without sugar. Just try cutting back to one teaspoon, then a half, etc.0

No, I haven't tried sweeteners :O I'll give them a try next time I hit the grocery store0 -
Sugar adds a considerable amount of calories, but if you can eat sugar (i.e., you're not diabetic or otherwise sensitive to carbs), as long as it fits within your calorie budget/macros there's nothing wrong with it. Cut back if it's become difficult to stay under your limit, but otherwise, no, you're fine. If you can stomach artificial sweeteners--some people don't like them or have adverse reactions--consider replacing real sugar with one of those. I prefer Splenda if I'm going to use a sweetener and don't have or can't afford the calories in honey.
Personally, I like unsweetened tea, but I agree that chamomile is a bit bland or bitter without some kind of sweetener. Consider branching out and trying other types or flavors of tea, maybe? Provided caffeine isn't a problem for you, earl grey tea is quite pleasant to drink straight, although that's not to say it isn't also tasty with a bit of honey and milk.0 -
No it is fine. If it fits your macros. 1 teaspoon is 16 calories. How many cups a day?0

I love my EZ Sweetz.. It is liquid splenda, so just sucralose with no fillers. Love it. No calories or carbs.0

i switched to Splenda with Fiber when i drink coffee (which is not daily) it's not bad and a little extra fiber never hurts0

I would try the sweetener it is 2 cals as against around 20 cals per teaspoon of sugar?0

Only if you go over your macronutrients. I use sweeteners just because I sometimes drink six coffees a day and that would be far too many calories.0

A little sugar is not bad, especially if it helps you keep your sanity. All that matters is a calorie deficit to lose weight or just a maintenance budget to maintain. All this "good food bad food" mantra is bad for your sanity. It is why people yo-yo diet. They deprive themselves of things they love and then go crazy and eat more of it and it's the too many calories that makes you gain weight. Don't make it complicated. Sugar is not bad. Too much sugar is bad. Carbs are not bad. Too much carbs are bad. We all know how to eat healthy. Just eat mostly healthy within a calorie budget. Of course carbs and sugar can cause too many calories, but so can too much protein. Just keep it simple. Eat what you like within your calorie budget (for a calorie deficit to lose weight), eat mostly healthy, allow your treats within your budget. If you had one day with a cookie or ice cream treat it will not kill you.
The only reason to limit yourself of anything is for health reasons, like if you are allergic to something. I have to mostly cut out sugar because of risk of diabetes, adrenal fatigue, and low thyroid but I still allow myself cookie treats or small sugar treats and even lost 60 lbs at age 50 allowing these treats. In fact these treats allowed me to keep my sanity and make my new life changes sustainable.0 -
Does it fit into your macros? If yes that have at it! I drink 2 cups of coffee everyday with sugar....I can get by with just a 1/2 a teaspoon in each cup tho:drinker:0

if you cannot give up sweet tea, switch to honey instead of sugar. at least honey has some extra benefits like small amount of minerals, amino acids, and vitamins, and it's not so processed as sugar.0

I think it's fine as long as you don't have diabetes. And of course it needs to fit within your goals.0

try some TRUVIA I really love it. You might even notice you'll need less of it to equal the taste of 2 tsp of sugar!0
