sign up to the strength training group bud.

Most of the folks there are barbell trainers, and there are a few competitive power lifters etc. Oly lifting is pretty specialised and I don't know of too many people who train for that specifically, but I'm sure there are a few.

Which gym do all of you people go to that have lift restrictions? I'd be canceling my membership and finding a new gym if someone threw that crap at me.

To the OP: I plan on training a lot of Oly lifting once my base strength is up a bit, as I just got under the iron two months ago. I'll likely be making a switch up and incorporating these in the next couple of months. No sense in trying to work on explosive power when I don't have any power to begin with. :D

For real! I never heard of that. They must be afraid that you'll get strong, buy your own bar and bumpers then stop coming to their gym.

As if they don't allow oly lifts. I work out at my uni gym, and they're usually pretty lax unless you're being a d-bag. I heard planet fitness doesn't even allow deadlifts anymore

Don't even get me started on Planet Fitness. They are the giant purple joke of the lifting world. It's ****ing pathetic. I'd like to break the limp *kitten* wrist of every employee that sounds that ****ing alarm.

no $#!t, I had not heard about the 'lunk alarm'. I never knew why people were so against Planet Fitness, I do now!

haha, no squat racks, do barbell lifts, no more than 20lb dumbells, no grunting... no progress! What a joke.

I'm glad I found my current gym, there you are looked at as the odd one out if you are using any machine other then the lat pulldown. If you don't have a barbell or dumbbells in your hand, you don't belong there.

Pretty much. I'd rather go to a river and just lift heavy *kitten* rocks that I found than ever consider using PF...and I REALLY hate water. Actually, now that I think about it, stone lifting is pretty badass, and looks like a lot of fun.

You might, and not even realize it. Some of the best gyms in the world are the small hole in the wall places that no one has ever heard of. When I was in Connecticut recently visiting my girlfriend's family, there was this place up there called The Lion's Den. They do boxing/mma training, and have a huge amount of lifting stuff, including some strongman stuff that your average gym rat would have no clue what to do with (chains, logs, etc.)

If not for the small sign out front, just by looking at the building, you've have just thought it was a huge storage shed or something.

I found one powerlifting gym near me, but they were more for training athletes than for normal folk like me.

So? Just because you are a 'normal folk' right now, doesn't mean that you can't be a total badass later. Always reach higher and push harder. :) Hell, I am in piss poor shape right now (21% bf, 5'10", 223 lbs.), but that doesn't stop me from going in there and slinging all the iron I can while working toward my goal of being as strong as I possibly can.

They told me they weren't interested in working with me when I toured the gym.

I'm sure you all saw how big Steve (owner of the iron sports gym) is right now haha. He's definitely not an "athlete in training". But if a gym is snobby enough to turn down a potential customer, I would say they are worse off than planet fitness. On a personal note, I hit a PR of 165lb snatch today.
