What kind of apps do folks use to help with weight loss? I think I'm going to break down and get an iPhone (an older one, not the newest and shiniest), and I'm trying to justify it by being able to aid my weight loss! :)

I have an android phone (cheaper than an Iphone, you know). I like the MFP app since i can log without my computer att hand. I also use a running app to get to 10k. Other people I know use endomondo (not good for guestimating calories though), runkeeper and other apps of that type.

Okay...I'm about the least observant person in the world, I think. *L* I just noticed the bit APPS tab at the top of the screen. Sheesh, I'm losing it!!

I didn't know android phones were cheaper! Thanks for letting me know! I've been totally passed by the phone technology...haven't had a new phone in about 5 years! I thought mine was fancy when I got it 'cause it had a slide out keyboard. *L* I really don't know much about the difference in phones, so that's good to know.

MFP of course, and Runtastic. Runtastic (now) updates my exercise to MFP automatically. I make sure to use my heart rate monitor to help with accuracy.
  • Hi. I do Atkins. It is a great diet. Well I don't consider it a diet because it is more of a way that you helps you maintain and control what you eat especially healthier foods. It is very effective and you feel fuller longer.

Well, they are in Sweden. My android phone (not shiny or high-tech even when new, but fairly durable which is good when you are scatterbrained and clumsy like me) cost something like $350 (I don't know the exact exchange rate). An Iphone costs about $700 here, so about twice the cost. Also: Android phones come in a greater variety of sizes. I like keeping mine in my jeans-pocket, which I can't with an Iphone (I tried...)

In addition to the MyFitnessPal app and some of the apps for tracking exercise, there are many other apps that factor into my weight loss/fitness plan, and they are nearly all free:

-Many chain restaurants have apps you can use to quickly check the nutrition information of their menu items. They are very handy when you have to eat on the run!

-Convert Me: does the work for you when trying to convert one type of measurement to another, so quite helpful when logging a food that was entered into the database with a different unit of measurement from the one you used to build your meal.

-The Calculator: all smartphones come with one, and it's great for accurately logging fractions of a serving size.

-A podcatcher: These are apps that download and organize podcasts. I tend to listen to podcasts while working out, rather than music. This is the one paid app on my phone.

-I have a few free recipe apps on my phone as well, which are useful when you are bored or have a few things laying around but no idea how to make a meal out of them.

-GroceryIQ: creates shopping lists, and you can use the scanner on your phone to build the list if you so wish.
