Basically, instead of steady state cardio, you go flat out as hard you can for a short time, and then lower the intensity.
Like with a run/walk.
Run, fast as you can for 30 seconds. Then walk for 1-2 mins.

It's alternating periods of short intense anaerobic exercises... Something that really brings your heart rate up... for example, 30 seconds of hard sprinting alternated with 15–20 seconds of jogging or walking. HIIT is super effective in aiding weight loss. It's a really great way to maximize a workout in a short amount of time0

No, it has to be high intensity. So your heart rate needs to be in high intensity range for a duration before going back to regular work load rate. Depending on your age/weight this rate can vary.
For me for example, my intensity rate is 175 while my regular work rate is 125.
So I would sprint at 175 for 30 seconds, and then walk at 125-130 for a minute...rinse repeat 5-6 times and then do another activity.0 -
One of the great things about HIIT is the extended calorie burn over time. Its hard to log it and get an exact number because your body will burn calories even after your workout0

It would be possible for you to do a HIIT exercise by jogging for 3 minutes and then walking for 2 minutes but you would have to have been doing HIIT for a long time.
As the first poster stated HIIT is all about doing a short high intensity interval of all-out effort followed by a recovery interval. Most people start with either 30-45 seconds of straight out sprinting followed by 1:30-2:00 of walking. Again, a beginner would do this about 6 times.
As you get better you can increase the time you do high intensity interval and decrease the recovery interval. You can also add more reps.
The key is effort. High intensity should be anaerobic exercise which means a lot of things but primarily if someone asked you a question you should not be able to give more than a one-word answer. During the recovery periods you should be able to give real short responses. Most anaerobic activity cannot be maintained for more than 2 minutes before you start slowing down and the exercise becomes aerobic.0 -

I'm sorry...but did you just say you do 30 seconds with your balls out? How does that help your HIIT performance? I'm confused.0 -
When doing HIIT, what do you use to log it? Just total time working at each pace?0
