Hi since joining a week ago I have been weighing myself every morning, even though I shouldn’t I can’t stop myself. It’s not good as when I don’t loss I get down and then binge on crisps, sweets and takeaways. Which sets me right back to square one. What can I do to stop myself? Please help! :grumble:

get rid of your scales... give them to a friend for a month, or chuck them out all together and go by measurements and how you feel in your clothes!

I'd say binging isn't the result of weighing each day but more on what is going on inside you and your relationship with food.

Some CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) might help...it has for me and I weigh each day.

Seems very obvious to me? Stop weighing yourself every day? If it makes you feel like crap cut it out! Don't be so tough on yourself, it takes a long time to lose fat, and for the changes to show on your body. If you go eating rubbish everytime you don't like the scales you arn't going to get anywhere. Harsh but true. Good luck x

I agree. The scale is just a trigger that lets out lots of other things. Talk to someone. There's more going on here than weight.

Either get off the scale, or learn to handle it better. I weigh every day and I find that about 3 -4 days a week, the number goes up. It doesn't mean I've gained fat though. The scale measures the weight of your whole body, not just the fat. Your weight is not the same from one day to the next, even if you are maintaining overall. Your body is mostly water, and there are lots of things that make your water weight fluctuate. Increased sodium, increased carbs, increased exercise and hormonal fluctuations are some of them. Weighing every day is not "bad", but if you're going to do it, you have to understand how it works, and not get upset if you see a gain. Otherwise, you will drive yourself crazy. Bingeing on crisps, sweets and takeaways is probably making you fluctuate like crazy, quite apart from any fat you might be gaining by eating too many calories. Weight loss is not linear, and even when you don't see gains, you won't always see a loss. It just doesn't work like that. I can stay the same for weeks, and the suddenly see a significant loss.

If you're not someone who can (or wants to) weigh every day, then that's fine too. The scales only show you part of your progress anyway. They never tell the whole story. Use measurements and progress photos to show you what's really going on.

I agree that it sounds like your eating issues are not just about the scale. You're bingeing as a reaction to (or to cope with) negative emotions. You're definitely not the only person around here to do that. That's the real issue though, and that's what you need to get to the bottom of if you want to see real success with your weight loss/management. Are you in the UK? (I'm guessing based on your profile) Have you talked to your GP about this? They may be able to get you some support, whether with seeing a specialist nurse, or a dietician, or getting some counselling or CBT. CBT is also something that's very helpful as a self-help tool, and there are several books available on it. You don't need to have a full-blown eating disorder to get some help in better eating habits. :flowerforyou:

Hey there, I know how you feel. However, I try to use that deception positively. When I weigh myself and am not satisfied with the loss, it motivates me even more to lose. I look back at my diary and figure out what I could change.
Honestly, your weight fluctuates so much due to so many factors that it isn't worth it to weigh yourself to begin with. To have the most realistic view, I'd weigh myself every two weeks. Even better, you should take measurements and pictures of your body.

Take care and good luck. xo

PS: If that's you in your picture, you are absolutely gorgeous.

I weigh every day also. If I'm up, I'm up. If I'm down, I'm down. Think of it on a week to week or month to month basis, not day to day.

I weigh myself maybe once a week now that I am maintaining. I go by my measurements, specifically my waist. AS long as that stays where I want it I could care less about my weight. rychanging your mindset about whats important. Are you trying to lose fat and look tight in clothes??? If so, than focus on diet and measurements. This is what set me free of daily weighing in...

Just weigh yourself once per week. . . hide your scales in the mean time... or ask a friend or partner to hide them/put them away and to only take them out one day a week. It's really silly to weigh in each day, your body will fluctuate on a daily basis due to an abundance of reasons - it's going to take some willpower. I weigh in every week or two... at the end of the day it's just a number!

I weigh every day also, I think your problem is more than bingeing than the weighing. Weighing in every day can be incredibly helpful for noticing slight patterns in your personal journey for weightloss, however, if you're bingeing frequently & weighing every day all you will be is incredibly discouraged.

I sometimes weigh myself every day, why not? I just have to take a step back and realize that I have a + - 10 pound difference every day. I think I'm better in tune with my self when I do weigh.

AGREE!!! I too weigh myself each day (my Husband says I'm crazy for doing that) but it helps me to know how much or little I can eat that day or the next day. Sort of like a guide for me. If I'm tempted to "fall off the wagon" with something that I know I shouldn't be putting in my mouth I tell the NEGOTIATOR (that's what we've named our subconscious) to take a hike. It takes a lot of willpower sometimes, but it gets easier the more you do it (especially after you see yourself losing weight). Good luck!

A while back I was going to a trainer and she had me weigh once in the morning and once at night. We compared that to my food journal and it helped me see how certain foods affected me, such as sodium, not enough protein ect. It was only for a few weeks though, then I went to weighing only once a week. I would only record weekly weigh ins.

I've been weighing every day too... which I shouldn't. But, I don't binge when I don't lose. I may get frustrated... but, I use each figure (good and bad) to motivate me to keep moving toward my goal.
