Hi,

I've read on the boards that people make their own beef jerky......anyone care to share their recipe?
I've bought bags in the past and it's been really high in sugars...delicious though, so would rather have a go myself

Thanks

we use ground turkey and have a hydrator and jerky gun that came with it. We buy the jerky spices from Cabellas.

we also have a smoker but personally we prefer the jerky made with the ground turkey, chicken or beef.

    You need a dehydrator.

There are types of beef jerky that have low/no sugar, I eat Jack Link's Beef Steak

I make my own, as well. I partially freeze, then slice, a less-fatty cut of beef (generally a london broil steak or some other sirloin), and then marinate it in this for a day or two before putting it in the dehydrator. ----> http://allrecipes.com/recipe/dads-jerky-marinade/detail.aspx .

FYI: I usually use less-sodium soy sauce, about half the sugar & sub minced garlic for the powder...it's never failed me yet! :)

Why do you need a dehydrator? I made beef jerky many years back in a VERY low oven. I'd prefer to not have to buy another gadget.

I was wondering if you had to have a dehydrator......I don't have one, so hoped a low oven setting would work.

I've used Alton Brown's fan method to make beef jerky - it works very well. http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/beef-jerky-recipe/index.html
