Ok,
I have figured out what my BMR and TDEE is. So, how can I figure out what my calorie intake and exercise intake should be per day? Help me please?

From what I understand, you should never eat BELOW your BMR, so 1300/day would be too low. It's suggested that you eat TDEE minus 20% or so. So that would be about 1800 for you. See what happens after doing that for a few weeks. You could drop it down to about 1600 or so if you want to lose faster...if that's how your body works. I'm at about 1500 BMR and 2400 TDEE...so I'm doing 1900-2000 cal/day. It seems to be working. It will only be a small loss each week for me...like .8-1.2 lbs/wk...but I'd take that loss as long as it means I keep losing every week and then get down to my goal of 155 and/or can fit into my size 8 pants...whatever comes first! I'm tall (5'11'') so size 8 would be perfect for me. :bigsmile:0

When I was losing, I set my MFP right above my BMR and ate back every exercise calorie. I have a HRM so it was pretty accurate exercise calorie wise. I had 28 lbs to loose and lost about 1-2 lbs a week.
I am at maintence now and have been for a few months, I am maintaining with my TDEE and eating back exercise.0 -

I really like this calculator because it's more detailed than any others that I've found:

Can I ask What BMR and TDEE means and how you get those numbers
Dolphintwin20:
BMR is Basal Metabolic Rate, the number of calories your body burns through its normal daily functions. If you stayed in bed all day long (alone, lol) doing absolutely nothing except breathing, that is BMR.
TDEE is Total Daily Energy Expenditure, this is BMR plus all the additional calories burned for the entire day when you make the decision to put your body in motion.
There are many calculators available online to help you determine these values or you can look for the mfp group IPOARM, which stands for "In PLace of a Road Map". The calculators are available in the group.0 -
Ok heres a question. If I chose to workout 3x a week burning at least 375 calories those three days and had my calorie goal set to 1696 ( according to the TDEE chart I used) then for the other 4 days that I don't work out do I eat the same amount of calories or do I drop like 200-300 to make up for not working out? I'm a bit confused on this whole thing. I have 12lbs to lose and I have struggled for two years to lose it. I fluctuate from 142-144lbs and I just want to get off this plateau for good but numbers and math aren't at all my strong suit so can anyone dumb this down for me? lol. I currently have my calories set at 1400 and I workout at least 4-5 days a week but some weeks can only do 3 days. I do 30-60 min workouts when i do workout though...0

Rule of thumb is typically around 500 calories or 20% of TDEE. Figure around 1700, for ~1lb/week loss. Easy peasy0 -

What's the rationale behind recommending such a steep deficit? Who wants the catabolism?0
