Low Carb/Sugar Fruit

What fruits are better for you? I brought an apple this morning to work for a snack and when I logged it, it was like 30+carbs and like 11g sugar so I havent eaten it yet. Because of that apple, I would be over in carbs and sugar for the day. Are there any fruits that you know of that are better than others in regards to sugar and carbs?

Berries, cherries and melons are the best for you and have lots of nutrition too.

eat the darn apple... make sure you leave the skin on because the fiber is good for you0

I am curious about the lower sugar fruits as well. Bananas always bump my sugar up over the macros.0

Yes. Your berries- strawberries, raspberries, blueberries. They all have approx 15g carb per 1 cup. That kind of seems high for an apple, but i guess i usually dont eat really big ones, so maybe that's why. I use glycemic index on alot of stuff because I'm diabetic. I need carbs but at certain amounts and times of the day. Anyway, if you research that, I am sure you'll find some useful information there0

Forgot to mention as far as the apples... it depend on what kind of apple it is. Example- a granny smith apple has more natural sugar in then a honey crisp apple0

The carbs from fruit are the good kind. You can afford to spend a few extra carbs here unless you are doing the paleo thing.0 -
I'm certainly no medical professional. But I'm thinking unless you have a blood sugar issue, I'd worry less about the carbs and sugars coming from foods with health benefits. Most of us are not on here because we eat too many apples! :laugh:
But everyone has their own health issues and maybe the carbs/sugars thing is an issue for you.
I have reactive hypoglycemia, and too many sugars can be bad for me. But if I pair fruit with a protein, I don't get the spike then massive drop in blood sugar. So for me it's not about what fruit can I eat, but what shall I eat with it to keep my sugars regulated better.0 -
Most of us are not on here because we eat too many apples! :laugh:
I never laugh out loud...but totally did right there....indeed I tend to agree that natural sugars and carbs are not to be stressed over so much!!0 -
Plums are low in calories. They must have low sugar.0

Interesting thread. Personally I eat a lot of fruit and am always over on my sugar, though not often over on overall carbs. As others have said I don't worry about eating 'too much' natural/fruit sugar. I just minimise my added sugar by not eating processed foods/cakes/soft drinks. Seems to work for me0

I tend to eat fruits that taste yummy. (which is most fruit for me) I don't worry about sugar since I have no medical issues. Berries are certainly the lowest though, which is probably why I eat less of them. (not to mention they seem to be more expensive)0

First, make sure you are using the correct apple on the food database. Apples have typically 20 grams of sugar per 100 calories. There is an incorrect entry on myfitnesspal as far as sugar goes.
Second, as long as the fruit has a lot of fiber, the sugar amount is not as important because it is natural and better for you than HFCS.
Third, lower sugar fruits are blueberries and cranberries. Basically any type of berry.
