Losing pounds but measurments seem to be the same...

I would like to know why the scale seems to be going down (slower than it was at first but Im not sooo strict w/myself like I was when I started this 'journey') Anyway, I would like to know why/how my measurements have not really changed since July (waist/hip) but Ive lost around 12 lbs. My body should be getting smaller and it seems it is but when I measure myself it seems im @ a stand still... Any advice is welcomed!!! :) Thank You!!! (If its water weight im 'losing' can someone explain this to me..) Again, thanks for your insight :)

You could be losing muscle--hows your protein?

i have the same issue sometimes. but have been losing since last december and gone down two dress sizes, so slowly slowly catchy monkey seems to be the way for me.

if it helps, do some research into 'visceral fat'. this is the fat surrounding your major organs - heart, liver etc, and you could be losing it from there, which wouldn't be visible from the outside.

if you are eating plenty of protein, i'd say losing muscle probably isn't an issue for you. Hope this helps!
  • Protein.. I'll have to check and see. I think I eat a fair bit. I'll check in to the visceral fat thing. Is that good or bad to lose?! thanks guys!

measurement's can change slower than pounds, or the other way around.... depends on how much and what kind of exercising you are getting in. Also, our bodies all react differently to weight loss.
  • Hey guys,
I just went back through my diary for the last 3 wks (@ work now really shouldnt be using the pc for 'personal things'..) I exceed my protein almost daily, and by a lot!!!! Soo I dont think its muscle Im losing, with eating my protein/exceeding it could I still be losing muscle? Hopefully someone is still on this 'thread' and answers back! Thanks Guys!!! ;0)

Internal Fat?!?! WTF!? Do we have external fat?! :noway: lol

I wouldn't worry much, everyone's body changes in a different way, you could be losing it from somewhere you're nor measuring from. You are doing great, so just keep it up!!!

The way I see it, if the scale OR the tape measure is moving, Awesome!
    Both are moving, Awesome!
Neither are moving, switch things up and be honest about your efforts!

    Ben.

eating protein isnt enough to safeguard muscle. you also need to be consistently overloading the muscles with work. muscle is active tissue and requires a lot of calories to mainatin itself. when you eat at a deficit AND dont use your muscles then why would your body want to keep using calories to keep it around when those calories could be used for things like keeping your heart working and organs running?

so to preserve as much muscle mass as possible you should be eating your protein and doing some sort of strength training where you progressively overload the muscles .

the main focus of my workouts have been weight training and although i might not lose anything on the scale, i consistently lose half -full clothing size each month. i regularly have disappearing pockets of fat that are seem to be there 1 day and then completely gone the next week.

another thing to keep in mind is that you could also be losing from places you arent considering. are your shoes bigger? necklaces hanging lower? rings too big? bracelets falling off your arm? what about fat at the inner part of your knee? i lost fat from weird locations like that before i started regularly losing from belly hips thighs and back

There is such a thing called internal fat - referring to the fat around your organs. This may be what you are losing, hopefully! If it is, be encouraged. That is the hardest fat to lose. My sister goes to a special weigh in that measures internal and external fat. So my info about it is from that.

external means outside... all fat is internal because it's located inside your body, mmmkay?

i think you all mean visceral fat for internal fat and subcutaneous fat for external fat.

also visceral fat most definitely plays a factor in size because it's going to show up as belly/upper body fat. there's no way that someone can have say 50 pounds of visceral fat and that not have an effect on what they look like on the outside. it's not like there's infinite space inside our bodies for fat to go

have lost 21.8lbs and barely any inches at all 7 weeks in, tbh it goes from where it wants to go and mfp only takes neck/waist/hips and for me i tend to lose weight off my bottom half before anything else so im not worrying, but it would be nice to see some changes, but it wil happen when it happens :)
