The farthest you ever traveled for a concert?

Me, last January I went from Paris to Munich for Alex Max Band (he used to be the singer of The Calling, if anyone still remembers that band) last January. It was a nearly eight hour train ride there on a Thursday after school and I had to skip school the day after because there was no way I could make it back in time even if I tried. And it was worth everything it took to get there, because it was an unbelievably amazing performance, made all the more incredible by the fact that Mr. Band was so sick that night that he had to cancel the rest of the tour.

So, whose performance did you travel for and was it worth the effort?

Hahaha I totally remember the Calling, I even met him once here in Kansas City, MO. Furthest I've gone so far is just to St. Louis to see Sublime with Rome, Matisyahu, The Dirty Heads and Pepper in one night and came back. 4 hours each way and made it to work early the next day ;)

All the concerts I've been to have been in the same general area, which is about 50 miles away. The only one that wasn't there was about 90 miles, to see Shinedown and Chevelle, and Shinedown didn't even play. :( At least Chevelle put on a good show!

I flew from Logan Airport to Oslo, Norway - sometime wayyyyy back in the 1980's, to see a band named a-ha. It was most DEFINITELY worth the trip.

I traveled all over the US for hippie bands for many, many years. It's how I saw most of the country.

There was a 3.5 hour drive (1 way) from Central Vermont to New Haven, Connecticut to see Dashboard Confessional. And there was the train ride from Prague to Vienna for I Am The Avalanche. And now that I live in Salt Lake City- Colorado seems to be reasonable distance for certain bands if they aren't coming to SLC.

Glasgow Scotland! to see a British band that my husband has followed all over: Embrace! We flew in that day (we live in New Jersey) and went to see the gig that night. In all fairness, we were ultimately on our way to the Isle of Skye to get married, but I swear my husband had it planned all along to go just at that time, because he knew they were playing at the Barrowlands just then. It was worth it!!

Flew from Montgomery, Alabama to Oakland, California to see the Grateful Dead play New Year's shows when I was in grad school. All the other Dead shows I saw were in the southeast.
  • I've lucked out and have not had to travel far to see bands. They come here for festivals and stuff. Plus we have a casino that they play in. I've seen Rusty (old band), Sum 41, Chantal Kreviazuk, Theory of A Deadman, New kids on the block.

Drove from NH to NYC for a John Butler Trio concert at the Bowery ballroom. It's about 5 hours each way but we hit traffic coming back that added another 3 hours,..

i think in a lot of cases its not that you have to travel its that you want to see a band in a specific location. like for me i always wanted to see U2 in Ireland. so i went to dublin to see them. spent a few days there and saw them twice. ive probably seen them 25 times in my life but those 2 in dublin were by far the best.

I went from San Diego to Edinburgh Scotland to see some groups, Mogwai, Twilight Sad, Morning Parade. Just figured to see Scotland at a time I could see some great music too. I regularly go to LA for concerts cause San Diego venues suck big time. Orpheum, Greek and the Bowl are my favorites there.

I live in London, England, so don't normally have to travel that far. Furthest from home I saw a band was in New York, can't remember who, but I was on holiday at the time. Furthest I have gone just to see a band, was to Dublin to see The Levellers. I am not a particular fan of The Levellers, I went to keep a mate company.

In 2000, I went from Austin, TX, to Toronto, Canada, to see a local Austin band play in their NXNW music festival. I didn't tell the guys I was coming, so you should have seen their faces when I walked into the venue - priceless!

No kidding! You met him? That must have been awesome... I wanted to as well, but there wasn't a m&g in Munich because he was sick. :(

Thanks for the responses, people! Always fun to see the lengths we'd go to see someone we like!
  • Hmm. Minneapolis, MN to Brussels, Belgium.

    Do I win a prize?
  • Good question! Total music buff here, probably go to upwards of 50 shows every year and have since I don't know when... Been all over the US for concerts, but longest trips have been from RI (where I live) to Vegas and to LA to see shows... I have a lot fo friends in the music business and especially in the 80's rock bands that i go to see and visit with. I am pretty fortunate that I rarely pay for tickets and usually have backstage access, so the traveling part is fun!
  • About 9 hours...From Cape Cod to Virginia to see Dave Davies (of The Kinks). In fact, followed the whole tour. Kinks fans are Krazy that way!!!
