I always just fry up veggies with water instead of oil, but you would have to make sure that you drain them before you add anything to them. Cauliflower is a nice alternative to rice, and it's also a good idea to have your sauce on the side, instead of mixing it within your veggies, that way you have a better idea of how much you are using.0

Chinese food can be very healthy. Just incorporate lean meats and plenty of veggies. Also, make you own sauces rather than using botted - waaayyy fewer calories that way.0

Remember when you are stir frying or sautéing anything to measure out just a small amount of oil. When you dump oil in the pan right from its original container, you often use a lot more than is really necessary.
I usually use coconut oil for almost everything because I looooove it (and rumor has it it's pretty good for you, too) but I also use olive oil. A few days ago I needed to sauté up about 4 cups of onions, plus a little garlic, as the beginning of a soup I was making. I decided to start with just a little oil and add as necessary. So, I started with just one teaspoon (a mere 40 calories worth!) of coconut oil, and.... I didn't even have to add any more!
My experience (with self and friends) is that when pouring oil into a pan, it ends up being at least 1-2 tablespoons in there... when at least in my little example there from earlier this week, that would be 3-6 times more oil than necessary.
Sorry this is somewhat off-topic, but I think it's a really important thing to keep in mind when cooking on the stovetop in general, whether Chinese food or otherwise :-) It sure makes the calorie-counting less painful in the end!0 -

Couldn't you make crab rangoon with won ton wrappers, low fat or fat free cream cheese, pam, and crab? Wrap the crab/cheese mixture in a wonton wrap, spray lightly with pam, and bake.
I might try making something like this tonight as well.0 -
Roasted Garlic Teriyaki Chicken Fried Rice
http://allrecipes.com/recipe/roasted-garlic-teriyaki-fried-rice-with-chicken/detail.aspx
I'm sure this isn't all that healthy......at least not by using the sauce. The oil can be cut at least in half, also. By using brown rice instead of white, you can also boost the nutrition of this particular dish. It's just all in how you decide to do it.

Teriyaki and Pineapple Chicken

Another one that can be made healthier, just by cutting down on the oil used. I would also omit the flour and use a little less of the teriyaki sauce, as suggested by some of the reviews. Extremely high on sodium, but that will lower if you use less teriyaki sauce.

Sweet and Spicy Stir Fry with Chicken and Broccoli

Warning! Many reviews claim that this is extremely hot. Cut the chile paste our and use less of the crushed red peppers for a more mellow flavor.

Great thread! These are kind of a pain with prep work, but its totally worth it. They're always a hit!
Chinese Chicken lettuce wraps
Stir fry together:
1 lb. thinly sliced strips of chicken breast
2-3 cups of shredded cabbage
1 cup shredded carrot
1 small red bell pepper, thinly sliced
3 scallions
1 small can sliced water chestnuts
2-3 cloves grated garlic
1-2 tsp. grated ginger
Zest and juice of 1 orange
Hoisin sauce, salt, pepper, chili sauce to taste
Spoon into romaine leaves or serve over rice
I change up the veggies all the time. Just use what you've got.0 -
Lol the regular, everyday Chinese food is really just: a bowl of rice, some veggies on the side, some simply cooked meat..and maybe some clear soup.. If you have veg and meat in the soup you can just have that with some rice for a full meal

I love Chinese, hate the calories...thanks for sharing recipes!
Only Americanized chinese food has a ton of calories.
For those new to stir fry,
Cut your meats in even sized chunks.
Cut all your individual vegetables evenly. You don't need to carrots the same as
The bell peppers.. But all the carrots need to be sliced the same.
You don't throw all the veggies in at once. You start with the ones that take the longest (like broccoli& carrots)
And end with the ones that cook faster.
If you have a wok, you have the ability to pull foods up and away from heat causing it to over cook.
Learn how to make your own sauces with ingredients like fresh ginger, sweet chili paste, curry and what not.
Don't be afraid to work with noodles.
Tamari has a great flavor and worth the few extra bucks.
If it sounds funky and you have the time, try it!
Lettuce wraps are divine.
Wander over next door from china, and check out what Thailand and Japan has to offer in the way of different flavors.0 -

Haha, honestly, we used to order chinese food at LEAST once a week. Since starting my healthy eating back in March, we've only ordered Chinese food ONE time because of all these great recipes! They have truly replaced chinese food take out for us. And when I had the "real" thing, I thought it tasted disgusting!
And P.S. - I'm making the Hoisin chicken rice bowls tonight!0 -
