In need of help. gained 4 due to depression

Hi, everyone.
i've gained 4st 3 in the past 5 and a half months due to a severe episode of depression. I couldn't get out of bed for 3 months and the weight piled on. Now that i'm feeling better, i'm am absolutely horrified at what i've done to myself.
I am in dire need of suggestions for a low impact exercise plan that includes 4 half hour exercise sessions per week and a well rounded eating plan to loose weight and build my muscle mass back up so i can restart kickboxing, At my current weight of 16st 8 i will not be able to keep up with those classes. Before i gained the weight i was 12st 5( as i have a medium/large bone structure) had gained an appropriate muscle mass. My ideal weight range is from 10st 6- 11st 6. i am a 21 year old female.
I would be really greatfull if anybody can help.

many thanks

  • I'm so glad you found something to pull you out of your depression,i'm not into kickboxing ,just cardio at the gym at least 4 times a week at a rate of 500 calories per visit,i'll divide my calorie burn between various machines, such as the treadmill, eliptical trainer ,stationary bike, and stair climber, works for me!!! welcome back and all the best to you! :flowerforyou:

It's good to see you found a way to climb out of the depression. I know that can be a real challenge. Congratulations on getting back into things. That takes strength and courage...good for you!

    I'm brand new to fitness!

Something I read about and I am going to try is an interval workout with ropes. I'm going to give this a try myself because of my age and current physical condition (or lack of...lol).

I've read you're supposed to use 1.5" thick ropes but for now I'm just going to use a 3/4" rope I already have. The idea is to work out by taking a 30' - 40' rope, wrap it around something, then take the ends in your hands and move your hands up and down (like doing the Monkey...it's an old dance (i'm 57)). Doing it correctly will produce a WAVE motion in the rope. The way I understand it is you do this for a minute or two, then rest for 30-45 seconds, then whip it up again until you have completed your workout. I'm actually starting it on Monday and plan on starting for about 15 minutes. We'll see if I can do it. Once I get good at it and I stay consistent, I'll get the heavier ropes (cost around $200.00 for the 1.5" thick ropes).

    Good luck and best wishes.
