I have decided to get a heart rate monitor.... The question is which to get.

Looking at FT4, FT7, FT40 and FT60.

The main reason I want one is to monitor my heart rate and count calories in the aim to improve my fitness. I do bootcamp sessions and run. I'm not fussed about gps as I use my phone for distances. The question is which functions would I need... Obviously range in price, but I want to get a decent one that would help me monitor fitness. Any suggestions on what functions I need?

  • Can't comment about bootcamp, but for running make sure the numbers are easy to read - as big as possible.
I use mine as a stopwatch so being able to see both HR and time without pushing any button was the most important factor.

I have the FT7 and it works great. I've been using it for a few weeks now (got it for my birthday). I really like the it syncs with the gym equipment because prior to having the hrm I was having difficulties getting the equipment to pick up my heart rate from te sensors. The display on the FT7 is nice and big, but not too big IMO.

I have an FT4 and it gives heart rate (numbers are lots large to read while running), calories burned, min and max heart rate for your workout, duration and stores your previous 9 workouts so you can look back if you want to. Polar's chest strap is very comfortable and the new HRM's and straps have batteries you can change yourself.

What options do you use on the Ft60?

I am a beginner with these and interested to know what I might use. Is the ft4 enough?
