Anyone using Nike+ technology?

I bought a new pair of nikes for running. They are apparently compatible with the Nike+ running app.

Do i need the fuleband in order to sync the shoes to my app? or can the shoes be used in PLACE of the band?
I am pretty confused and the syncing is not explained very clearly anywhere in the app or on the website.

I use the Fuelband and will occasionally use the Nike+ Running app to track runs.

The Fuelband has nothing to do with the Nike+ Running App that comes with your iPhone. It is a separate system that only tracks your amount of movement throughout the day.

Use the Nike+ Running app to track your runs / walks. You don't need special shoes to use this app because it tracks using GPS.

From nikeplus.nike.com: "The Nike+ Running app tracks distance, pace, time and calories burned with GPS, giving you audio feedback as you run. Automatically upload to nikeplus.com to see your runs, including your route and elevation."

That might help, but personally I don't use any Nike products with my Nike+ Running App--I just strap the iPhone on my arm, click "Start My Run," and go. It's not 100% accurate, but it gives me a mile for every .90-.95 mile I run, so it's not TERRIBLE. I'm sure you'll have better results w/ your shoes, but I don't think you should need the fuelband now!

thank you both for your responses.

so the shoes would just be another way to measure my "nike fuel"

but i guess my question still remains - if i did decide to do this (seems pointless imo) then would i need to buy the band still? or can i sync the program right to my shoes?

No, the shoes would take a little pod if you were to use say the ipod Nano instead that doens't have GPS or the accelerometer thingy that the iPhones have. NikeFuel is basically like a bracelet that tracks your movement and tells you how active you've been. It's basically a glorified pedometer, but not very accurate because you wear it on your wrist. It's fun though and keeps you motivated to stay active.

I use Nike+ to track my treadmill runs, and anything I do outdoor I'll use Runtastic so that it will also plot my route.

It's nice to have the pod option if you like using your nano over iPhone to work out, but if you don't than no biggie.

I would use my iphone, which does have GPS.

So there is no other equipment or devices needed to sync the two?

Nope, nothing more is needed, because it's really the phone that's doing all the work, not the shoes, and the phone will then sync it up to Nike.
