Hi, I'm Remy Bean, although currently I'm more of a Remy Gou

I'm 29 years old, 5'11'', and pushing 200 pounds. Mostly fat. I'm at my heaviest. Scarcely 18 months ago I weighed 155, could run 5 miles as a matter of course and do 30 pull-ups at a go. I was a gym rat, and trained 5x days a week. Then I lost my job, relocated across country, excuses, excuses ... today I can't make it up the stairs without huffing and puffing. I'm trying to get back to my earlier level of fitness. I'm a lifelong dieter, having been put on my first course at age 14 by an adolescent physician. My friends/family think I'm silly, because even when I'm pretty heavy, I carry the weight decently well and don't look as out of shape as I feel/as the scale informs me I am. But for the first time I have a real gut. A big chubby baby strapped to the front of my chest. And I want it gone.
I'm earnest about losing weight (this will be my third serious diet) and even at this heaviest stage, I eat pretty healthy -- I just snack too much when I'm baking/cooking. So: hello!

Welcome, Remy!
I'm in a similar situation. I know it's hard to have been fit and healthy and then be...not fit and healthy!
I'm also tall (5'10) and people say, "Oh, you don't look like you weigh over 200#" but I know how I used to feel and I want to feel that way again.
Oh, and if you have to snack while cooking (I do, too), make it veggies or fruit. I used to snack on cheese & crackers while cooking dinner and surprise--weight gain. Carrots or an apple or grapes are much better choices.
It's challenging, but you've taken a great first step by joining MFP. This is a great community. Congrats, keep it up, and we can do this!0 -
Welcome Remy!
Your post made me smile>big chubby baby strapped to the front of my chest<
I have a feeling it won't take you long to get back to your gym-rat former self, since you said that you eat pretty healthy. I was at my heaviest weight ever two years ago when I first logged on to MFP. I was eating healthy food too; just a LOT of it:-) The first thing I did was buy a $6 little plastic food scale at Bed Bath and Beyond and started measuring portion sizes. Now I KNOW how much 2 ounces of pasta is! And a 1/2 cup of ice cream? Puhleeeze...that's a spoonful. So I had to dump the ice cream, except on Sunday cheat days!0 -
Also, keep us posted on how you like the Couch to 5k and 100 pushups program...I've heard these are both great. Good luck.0

This was one of my biggest problems too!!! I also was a little generous on my portion sizes.
I have found when cooking and baking chewing REALLY strong mint gum keeps me from wanting to taste test everything becuase the mint doens't mix well with teh other tastes.
Welcome and good luck!!!0 -

Your post about the big chubby baby strapped to the front of my chest made me smile too. Fits me perfectly. I'm not quite at my heavest ever, but really close. I also have started measuring and weighing everything. Really helps.0
