Are you using the site to calculate your calorie goal? Do you eat back your exercise?

FWIW at the beginning of a "diet" you are going to be hungry. Your body is used to overeating and likes to fight you on it. It goes away after awhile.

To be honest, we need to know what your 1200-1400 calories is, what are you eating. Big mac large fries and a coke is over 1200 calories. Eat that every day at noon, by 7pm your gonna be starving. So what are you eating, then we can figure out why your hungry.

on this site it said to eat 1200, my health coach that i had to go thru said to eat 1800, my doctor said 1600-1800, and then this weight loss program i joined said 1200-1400. yes i do eat back my calories. i have read alot of articles on here and they eat a higher amount of calories then i was told and are being successful at losing weight. I'm just not seeing much difference on the scale at all and it gets frustrating:(
  • What are you eating throughout the day? I had the same problem, but I started eating small snacks between meals. Also, look at your protein and whole grain intake. Those are the two things that keep you full for longer. If you're eating mostly fruits/vegetables you may want to rethink your diet.

It is always best to ask your doctor. He/She is the best and most reliable resource. Plus there are so many variances that could factor in what you should be eating.

Without going to the doctor and not knowing your physical health...if you are finding yourself still hungry...eat more fruits and veggies. They tend to be more filling and will help stop the cravings!

Look up tdee and bmr on here.. read read read!!!! Just an example: women in their mid 30's with a sedentary lifestyle when weighing 185lb being 5' 5" you can eat 1415 to lose without any exercise. If they exercise they can eat more!

Try this link to.. pretty neat tool: http://bwsimulator.niddk.nih.gov/
  • I am the same height and started out at 238lb, after a few weeks at 1400, I upped it slowly to the current level of 1600 cals, I have lost every week on this, 1lb some weeks 2 or 3 others and I find it very doable. I am exercising and only eating a little of those cals back, I prefer this way as I can up my exercise as my fitness improves and still eat same evening meal as rest of family. According to body fat calculators I am maintaining my lean body mass on this.

    Have you read this? http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/654536-in-place-of-a-road-map-2-0-revised-7-2-12
I used it to figure out my BMR and TDEE. I always eat inbetween those numbers. Usually around 20% below TDEE. TDEE would be your maintence and BMR is what your body requires to function, or so to speak. I have found the more Water i drink, and the more fruits and veggies i eat, the less hungry I am. It also helps me if I eat more evenly calorie wise at meals, and i have a snack in the afternoon between lunch and dinner. If your body truly is hungry, its probably trying to tell you something though. My opinon I would try to do 20% below your TDEE and adjust accordingly from there. Good luck :)

Here are your numbers, I didn't know if you were male or female, so I put them both up:

    "Mifflin-St Jeor
    (FOR MEN)" BMR 1,883
    Maintenance 2,449
    Cut (@ 15%) 2,081
    Build (@ 15%) 2,816

    "Mifflin-St Jeor
    (FOR WOMEN)" BMR 1,717
    Maintenance 2,233
    Cut (@ 15%) 1,898
    Build (@ 15%) 2,568

Here is a spreadsheet to play with to get your own numbers:

I want to say thank you to all of you for your response, I hope you get this:) And special thanks to both mikeschratz (i am a female lol) and Canderson5805, THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!! I read your articles and information, it looks like you both use the same articles to help determine the calorie intake. That was information was VERY interesting and i finally got to input my information and figure out my calorie intake from that site. After entering everything it says I should eat 2068 calories daily, which is a huge difference from 1200-1400 i was told to eat. It did say i could eat 200-300 less to get alittle quicker results. I'm alittle nervous eating that high of calories but am most definitly going to give this a try because the 1200-1400 is not working and i still just feel so hungry. THANKS AGAIN I TRULY APPRECIATE YOU TAKING THE TIME TO GIVE ME SOME ADVICE!:)

Good luck to you all as well:)
