Looking for Quality Friendships...

I posted this as a blog originally... but, I'm going to repost it here on the forums.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I'm not interested in the quantity of friends. I'm interested in the QUALITY. And, if I can say so myself, I have a WONDERFUL group of friends (EXCELLENT QUALITY). Friends that encourage me and who I can encourage as well.

With that said, though; I did just delete 2 young ladies who keep complaining about binging and purging because they are "so fat and ugly" (their words). They look rail thin in their images -- and say on their page they weigh barely over 100 pounds. They are BEAUTIFUL young ladies, with their whole lives a head of them. I want to be an encouragment to people. I really do. But, I don't know how to be an encouragment to these people. I want to be healthy -- NOT "THIN". I have low self-esteem myself, so I can almost understand; but, I pray I never become that bad. I just want to be healthy and strong. I am sorry if this is harsh and selfish of me to delete these ladies. I really wish them the best of luck; but, I want to succeed. And, statuses like that just make me angry. I'm here to motivate anyone who is here for the right reasons. I want you all to succeed; but, attitudes like the ones I just described don't bring success. Again... I'm sorry. I hope you all can understand.

PS -- And, when I say the statuses make me angry... I mean angry at the world. Angry at the world's view of what TRUE beauty is... and angry at how people fall for that view so easily.

I get what you're saying. I really only have one person on my FL that eats low consistently, she is trying to overcome an eating disorder, not binging/purging consistently. The worst thing is how many young girls think they need to be tiny to be attractive and will harm themselves for feeling they aren't good enough. I enjoy the quality friendships I have made on MFP and always welcome more :) Add me if you'd like another support!

Over the last few weeks, I have found a few of these type of friends on my page. It's discouraging to me, as well as to them (as I don't see how I can properly encourage them). If they see a problem and are honestly trying to improve, I will give them encouragement and time... but, many honestly think they need to lose weight, and refuse to see the real problem and get help. When it makes me angry to see them ruining their life like that, I don't see where I can be an encouragment. I am actually more afraid I may say something I would soon regret.

Thanks for your message, btw. Friend request sent.

Hi Everybody, Im here in MFP, just joined few days back but I find it very useful especially in controlling my diet. Like you I'm also looking for quality friends here. Friends who could help me to continue this voyage to a better health. I'm a mother of 2 boys and wanted to shed off my last 10 lbs
