Peer pressure from none other than the boyfriend

How do I say "no" when this is a typical day:
Me: Where do you want to meet for lunch??
Boyfriend: TACO JOHNS!
: |
I'm doomed.
Me: uhh....something SLIGHTLY healthy?
Boyfriend: Finnnnnnne...let's get a gyro.
Seriously?!

Don't ask? Tell him where to go?0

Say "awesome, you can grab your lunch from there, I'll grab mine from (insert choice) and we can eat in the park together!"0
-
Maybe try packing a healthy lunch for the two of you?! Then instead of meeting somewhere to go out to lunch (spending more $ than necessary and packing on the unwanted calories) you could meet at a park or coffee shop (or anywhere really) to eat your "picnic" "brown bag" HEALTHY lunch from home!! just a thought, hope he'll compromise!0

We had the same concept at *almost* the exact same moment, great minds think alike, lol0 -
What I wouldn't give for Taco Johns! lol
I agree with everyone above- pick up your own (and meet him there), or picnic!0 -
If you have to go to a place like Taco John's, or Taco Bell, or whatever, you can always modify an order so that it is healthy. I am used to doing this. I am a vegan and my husband is a carnivore. I go to whatever restaurant I want or he wants and always find something healthy and vegan appropriate. Good luck!0
-
It's not really fair to ask him what he wants to eat and then criticize his choice. Make a suggestion if you want something healthier.0
-
1.eat your "healthy" lunch before you go out to eat.
2.You pick the place:glasses:
3. don't go out for lunch and cook something
4. get new BF:sick:
5. pick a salad off the menu:happy:
6. Keep doing the same but stop complaining
7. Drink a protein shake before and/or instead of eating lunch and make a healthy dinner at home:drinker:
8. stop eating out so often and make it a "once in a while " thing so that it doesn't matter where you go:bigsmile:
9.No Means No!!!:explode:0 -
My boyfriend is the same wayyy. And that's usually what we do. He gets Taco Bell or something and I'll grab Subway.0
-
Don't give in! My boyfriend is one of those guys who'll eat anything (although he's recently given up red meat and beef, woohoo). You can go to most of these places, just find the healthiest alternatives (even if it means altering it to make it healthy) ...
P.S. Never heard of Taco John's - don't think we have them in LA. But if it's fast food, pack your lunch!0 -
I say take control and tell him where you want to go for lunch, instead of asking him.0

Look at the above link and find something to fit into your macros.0 -
Go to Taco John's website ahead of time and see what your more healthy options are and see if they fit in your calorie scheme for the day. Do some exercise and earn more calories? If so, go there, and tell your sweetheart that tomorrow (or whenever you go out next) you get to pick something a little better for your lifestyle change. Compromise!0

how about instead of complaining to the forum. focus on the positive: he wants to spend time with you.0
-
Just break up with him. He clearly isn't being supportive0

How the conversation REALLY went:
Her: Where do you want to eat?
Him: I dunno. Where do you want to eat?
Her: I don't care. Where do you want to eat?
Him: I don't care either. Where do you want to eat?
Her: I don't know, I asked you first. Where do you want to eat?
Him: Ummm...I don't know. I guess, maybe, Taco Johns.
Her: Really? THAT place? You KNOW I'm trying to watch what I eat. Why would you pick that place?? You know it's hard for me to pick something that's not like 1 bazzillion calories from there. Geez. You're supposed to be supportive of me!!!
Him: Uhhh...ok, ok! My Bad!! Sorry!!! So, Where do YOU want to eat?
Her: I don't care, you pick, I asked you first. Where do you want to eat?0 -

Don't ask? Tell him where to go?

I would try suggesting something healthy from the start, that way you don't end up shooting down every single one of his suggestions, which will frustrate you because he can't read your mind, and it will frustrate him because he just "can't do anything right." in the end no one will be happy.
He can't force you to eat unhealthy, you need to take control and plan ahead, if he doesn't like your food choice ideas I would go with what someone said earlier, you pick what you want, he gets what he wants and you go to a park and eat.
It probably wouldn't hurt to sit down with him either and explain that you are on a diet and list the places that you are ok with getting food from for yourself, that way he can also plan ahead and on day's when he just doesn't want anything you want then you can both agree to disagree and get separate lunches.0 -
Don't ask? Tell him where to go?
Yes and every now and then let him look in your purse and seen his nuts.0 -
It was meant to be a humorous jab at my boyfriend who always picks the most unhealthy places to eat. I wanted Subway, he wanted TJs, we compromised on a soup/salad/sandwich place.
Boyfriend went for the cheeseburger, fries and soda, I opted for a chicken wrap and water.0 -
Just break up.0
-
Thanks for everyone who was positive and supportive to this, like i said, it was meant to be humorous, but I do struggle with temptation. It wasn't mean to be whiny or complaining, I realize this is something I need to take control on my own and not blame others.0

My husband has no idea what healthy or low calorie food is. He's tall and slim and thinks that making nachos with extra veggies is helping me with my diet. Sometimes you have to spell it out for them.
Here's what I do:
Where do you want to go for lunch? Subway or pita pit?
He's still getting the choice but either is good for you.0 -
