What do you do during the winter? Do you keep running outside or inside? I hate running outside in the cold and I hate the treadmill. So just thought I'd ask if you switched it up during the winter or not. I'm thinking if switching to just work out DVD's and just some short runs on the treadmills but I don't want to lose all endurance that I have now from running long distance on a consistent bases. TIA!

I run outside all year, but I don't have to deal with snow. Cold, wet, mud, rain, fog, wind - I ran in all of it last winter/spring - kinda adds to the fun of running outside. Sometimes it's a challenge to get yourself out there, but worth it.

There are a lot of MFPers who live in cold winter climates who run outdoors through the winter, even in snow! Just have to have the right gear.

I'm more willing to run in the cold/wet weather but winters here usually get pretty bad. I can't even see the roads usually. Plus the gear that I would like to get would cost me money I don't have :( I think I'll just suck it up and use the treadmill.

I run outside. With the right clothing it's fine. Only days I find it mentally tough are windy cold days. The first few minutes may be a little cold, but i find i warm up quickly and it's no problem. Getting out the door is the hardest part.
  • You can do different workouts like jumping jacks or jump rope to keep up your endurance. I personally use the stairs in my house to run up and down until I can't anymore.
If you have stairs OMG use them lol

Doing workout DVDs is a solution as well. When it snows where I live it's impossible to run outside and I don't have a gym membership.

Try crossfit style exercise too. Burpees are one intense mother f-er.

If you do choose to run outside, get some good gear. This will make it feel like the weather is bearable. I have a ton of gear from Under Armour that helps loads and I even have a face mask made for running in cold weather.
