OUCH!!!

I've been walking further and faster the last few weeks and also started to incorporate jogging too but I've come to a halt as my ankle on my right leg is really hurting. :sad:

I get a searing pain from the (inside) ankle bone up to about halfway to my calf, the ankle is now twice the size of my left one and the swelling has travelled up almost to my knee.

Any ideas what might be causing this and what I can do to remedy it as I'm desperate to get out exercising again.

    Yeah, no, that's a doctor-right-away thing. Rest & elevation, ice if it's swelling, from right now (when you call to make the appointment) until you actually see the doc.

    searing pain for more than a week? sounds like it's time for a doctor, you want to make sure you don't have a compression fracture of some sort.
  • go to your doctor.
  • Sounds like pulled tendon or fractured ankle bone but I'm no doctor I'd go the hospital if it reaches a state where you can't walk on it as you could have permanent damage if you don't get it treated hun. Head the doctors asap.For now cold flannel wrapped around it regularly resoaked and try keep your ankle above the level of your heart to reduce the pooling of blood in the inflamed area.

    I'm saying the doctor too....sooner rather than later cause you don't want to hurt it anymore than it already is!

    Get a brown paper bag, an ace bandage (or it's unbranded equivalent), vinegar, and an ice pack. Put all of this in a cabinet somewhere, and then go to the doctor.

    Call your doctor and make an urgent appointment or go to an urgent care if you can't get in within the next day or two, and follow any directions your dr. office may give you. If they give you none, follow R.I.C.E. until your appointment.....

    R = Rest
    I =Ice the injured area
    C = Compression (think like an ace bandage)
    E = Elevation

    That definitely sounds like a doctor thing.

    Oh frig!

    I thought I was going to get bawled out for being a sissy but now I'm a bit worried after reading all your responses.

    I can walk on it but it really hurts. It's been like it since yesterday but the swelling up the leg is getting worse.

    I'll get it elevated as soon as I get the chance to rest and see how it goes during the night , it's 7pm here so a Dr's appointment is out of the question and my Dr doesn't have A&E facilities so I'd have to get to the hospital tomorrow.

    Could it not just be a pulled muscle or tendon or something that just needs resting??

    Muscle probably not, tendon possibly - but tendons take a *long* time to heal. Especially if they're torn, which is not a thing you want to play around with.

    Doctor as soon as you can make it. Your foot won't fall off overnight, but rest as much as you can.

    Thanks for the reassurance about it not dropping off, I've removed the basket from the end of the sofa now. :laugh:

    I'm finally prose with my ankle raised and I can almost feel the fluid 'draining' from my leg already. My ankle is feeling a bit 'fizzy' which I'm not sure is a good or bad sign.

    I've found it hurts the most when I try to flex my ankle (putting my sock on was a nightmare!), any ideas??
