snacks, IIFYM, 80/20 rules...I just do what SUITS ME

Snacks are downright delicious and I actually eat more "snacks" than I do "meals"--and I'm okay with that. I think people are a bit too rigid regarding the "right way" to do things.

I know I COULD eat "better" foods but I wouldn't enjoy it nearly as much--I love that I eat amazingly tasty and healthy meals (when I eat them) but that I don't restrict myself to ONLY those foods since it really doesn't jive well with me.

Eating only 20% of your calories from "snacks" or whatever people consider "good" (i.e. 80/20 rule) is just ridiculous for me--I'd never get my calories in that way. So..I embrace what does work FOR ME. That means that I eat "unclean" foods every single day, loads of protein, loads of soy, loads of sodium, and I completely kick my own toosh in the gym!

I guess we can call it a form of IIFYM--it just suits me-- I strive for healthy meals, LOADS OF SNACKS, and adequate protein. Aside from that I don't have any real "rules." I notice that when I do this I feel better, look better, and life is a heck of a lot simpler.

Speaking of snacks...I'd really love some right now! :)

  • oh and this post is basically a public answer to the many questions I get regarding WHAT I eat, what my macros are, and whether I eat "junk food."

    It's a lot simpler than people make it out to be --yes, your performance might be superior if you eat 100% clean but for me that's simply not worth it. It's not my job to perform at a certain level or to achieve a certain bf% so I weigh the pros/cons and would rather have a looser approach to eating.

    I think most people are doing what suits them, just for some people what suits them has a name like 'paleo' or 'IF' or whatever. I realised this when answering the 'advice you don't follow' thread. Everyone is selecting what suits them, however illogical, me included.

    I don't agree. A lot of people TRY to follow what's "supposed to" work. Like paleo, IF, or low carb...none of those things would ever suit me and it would be foolish for me to go that route. I think a lot of people fight the method that could lead to greater success sheerly due to greater adherence--I do get what you're saying though.

    I am very similar - many small snacky type meals every 3-4 hours with a mix of protein, fat and some carbs. I always try to have good stuff every day - I've done the restrictive deny myself stuff in the past and there is no way I will do that again - life is too short and peanut butter is too good!!!!!
