My 5k Races - Coming Full Circle

After completing the C25k program last year, I ran my first organized race on 10/29/11 (the whole story is here if you're interested: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/scapez?month=201110). It was a very surreal experience for this previous non-runner. At the end of it I cried a little.

This Saturday I will be tackling the Ghostly Gray 5k once more, it will be my 2nd time at this event and my 10th organized race since I started doing them last year. Here I am, a year later, once more running the race that started it all for me.

It's amazing that until I was 44 years old I had no interest in running in any way, shape, or form. The handful of times I had tried it in the past I hated it (not to mention that I thoroughly sucked at it as well).

I started C25k only because I was bored of the workouts I had been doing - and that deviation ended up opening up a whole new world to me - running. I fell in love. I'm still in love.

Next year will be more 5k's as well as 10k's and in May, my first half marathon.

Never be afraid to try something new...you never know where it'll take you!

That is awesome! Very similar to my story. Never ran, never a runner, tried a couple of times but never caught "the bug". I started walking with a co-worker, then gradually did my own C25k (without even knowing such a thing existed!) and was given a personal goal by the fitness coordinator at work to register for a 5k in 2012. Well, I took her up on that, and despite missing 3 months due to a bout of runners knee, ran 5 5k's this year! I'm still looking at a 10k for December and have a 1/2 as my goal for next year. Thanks for sharing your story and successes!

    Great job!

You are so awesome. What an inspiration! I was 43 when I first started running and have been running for about a year now. Like you, I never thought that I would love it.

    Congrats on all your races!

First, I would never guess that you are in your 40's! You look so much younger! Secondly, congrats on your accomplishments! Good luck on your upcoming race!
