NSV: Smacking down this battle of the bulge & Depression

For me, (that's ME...everyone is different and our battles are unique no matter how much they don't look or feel like it) more than half of this battle is a mental thing--maybe even more than the physical addiction of gluttony and slothfulness.

I'm meditating on a quote I read yesterday:

"Noble deeds and hot baths are the best cures for depression."Dodie Smith

That sparked an idea for me today. I'm headed out shortly to do some good ole fashioned raking/picking up leaves--perfect way to kill two blasted fat birds with one stone: Exercise and Fresh Air. Well....I'm also going to rake up my elderly neighbors leaves as well--just to do a noble thing. I'm not depressed, but I can be slothful/lazy. What a perfect way for those who are depressed to snap out of it (if not completely---perhaps just a bit), by doing something "Noble" for someone in need. It will take y/our minds off of ourselves for a bit and bless someone's heart real good.

I was out raking leaves earlier this week and woooooo....talk about some sweating, my fat was crying something fierce and I'm looking forward to doing more today. If you have leaves outside, perhaps you can get out there and pick them up too! Maybe go the extra mile for an elderly neighbor in need and do their's too. YEP, your body will feel it the next day like mine did--but it's recovered and I'm hankering to get out there and do more today--you will too, I promise:wink: .

Depression and this battle is REAL and I'm surely not trying to downplay it at all--but I'm digging this quote/Noble Deeds" Afterward a hot bath sounds fabulous too.

Anyone have any other ideas or suggestions on some noble deeds you can do to kinda backhand smack depression or laziness/slothfulness or being mentally in a funk? Please feel free to add some, won't you?:flowerforyou:

You are so tremendous and the feeling is way mutual! Did I say about an hour or so raking??? Pffffffff! I'm just now finishing and it's been more almost 3 hours to finish:love: Oh my oh my aching back and my hands have callouses on them, and YES I'm walking like a cowboy/girl but ya know what???? I FEEL GREAT...These are the BEST aches and pains in the world:drinker:

My lawn looks tremendous and so does my neighbors next door, girl I have sooooo many huge bags of leaves outside it's fabulous. My neighbor came out to thank me profusely and that beloved sweetheart gave me some gourmet coffee, she said she was saving for a special ocassion--but wanted me to have it. I told her NO, but she insisted. So, I'm fixing to have a delicious cup of Joe (I wasn't going to add these calories burnt and honey I burnt up a ton--but I will for the coffee & cream I'll have. Then I am going to take a long hot fabulous bath. WOW...Doing noble things ROCK! Yep...it was daunting at first, but looks smashing and I feel like I just climbed a huge mountain all the way to the top.

Thank you so much for replying my friend!

    Woot!

I would love to... can I borrow your rake? Ours broke and we're between pays. :ohwell:

But seriously, raking, shoveling, mowing, and even gardening are great frms of activity. Good for you for seizing the day and the opportunity. LOVE the quote.

 Thanks so much Colleen! Just remember when you do rake, to be SURE to wear some gloves...those blasted callouses hurt. Also, I was oh sooooo tempted to jump into some of the big piles of leaves too. Just like running though, I'm not "there" yet:tongue:
