about a month ago i decided i was going to restart this healthy eating and a better life for myself. with over 100 pounds to lose, it is exciting to lose weight every week, but those weeks when i lost nothing or remain the same it drove me nuts! i have been the typical person who cuts calories dramatically and works out like a machine, hey i lost 25 pounds in about 11 weeks. but then 10 months later and 30 pounds heavier, ohh here we go again.. so a month ago i started off slowly, 2000 calories a day, no exercise, id lose weight at about 1/2 pound a week. sure enough for 3 weeks it worked.. WOW... on fridays id eat at maintenance, and on saturdays id splurge, eating 700-1000 more then necessary, and then sunday eat 700-1000 less to make it balance. in 3 weeks i was down 5 pounds not just the 1.5 i planned for.... well this past sunday i did that again, eating 1200-1400 calories and have continued, hey i even worked out for 2 of the 4 days i did this, but unfortunately the scale has me weighing more then what i did last week. totally weird... hopefully my body is just figuring out what to do... i realize its most important to be healthy and not think of this as just a temporary thing, but i know what i did a year ago and it worked, this time maybe not?

I am having almost the exact same problem! In fall of 2010 I started cutting back on my portions, started eating less carbs, more protein & veggies etc & started working out (about 4x per week). At that time I did not know about MFP & did not track calories, just kind of did my own thing. Over the span of about 6 months I lost 25 pounds and trimmed off 5 inches from my torso. Dec of 2011 I went an entire month w/o working out & ate all the fudge & cookies I could get my hands on. Results? I gained back 3 inches and 15 lbs! SO I started over about 3 months ago using MFP. I increased my workouts to 6x per week & cut my calories in half. I even hired a personal trainer to get my *kitten* back on track! The results this time? I've lost 1 lousy inch & only 3 lbs!

I have tried adjusting numbers, taking a week off to "shock" my body. Tired switching the type of workout & the time I do it to "shock" my body....I'm still holding firm at my 3 lb loss! I'm curious to know the answer to this also.

One of the biggest things I try to notice is my sodium intake. If I eat out, even if I stay under my calories, that restaurant food is so loaded with salt that my weight won't be back to normal for over 24 hours. Drink lots of water and watch the salt. If you keep your caloric intake at the proper level you will see it. If you have too much salt just remember to not trust the scale for a bit. As long as you do the right thing for your body it will respond over time. You've got this.

So many people on here restrict so many calories and I do not know how they plan to make a lifestyle out of it! I am set for .5lb a week weight loss, eating about 1800 cals a day. On the weekends I tend to go over, during the week I keep myself more in check and I do work out when I can. Some weeks I lose a bunch sometimes I dont...BUT Over all I am about 34 pounds down since I started 1.5 years ago and I am able to keep this up without suffering!! Your body will fluctuate...just keep at it and it will work!

I agree with 69Greer. I have drastically reduced my sodium intake by eating cleaner(healthy) and drink alot more water than i used too. I have lost 9 pounds in 3 weeks on mfp. I believe a lot of it has to do with not having all that water weight. And at 7 pounds lost i went down a dress size. I will say Drink lots of water and try to cut back on salt and see if that helps any

you have to stay consistent. you dont have to cut everything out..but you do have to control yourself. and then a healthy dose of exercise is good to keep and increase a sitting burn and more while u are moving.

i thank you all for your input. i do agree i dont see myself eating 1200-1400 cals a day for eternity. i guess right now im playing around to see how my body responds to changes. now that i have confused my body im wondering if i should just go back to where i was with 0.5lb a week loss. it seemed to work
