Hello.

I just signed up for this program but noticed when I went to change my exercise goals that no matter if i exercised 4 times a week or only one time that my results should still be of 1.6lbs lost per week! I don't get it!!! Does that mean that the exercise doesn't really matter for weight loss and that its just all about the nutrition OR is their a glitch in the website? Please tell!

  • the exercise is calculated daily, depends what you do ie. run for 45 minutes etc

I'm assuming you've said you want to lose 2 lbs per week. MFP will set your caloric goal so that you lose based on caloric intake, but it will never program you for less than 1200 calories per day base. If you complete your diary every dat eating exactly the number of calories MFP recommends, it would say you would lose 8 pounds in 5 weeks. (1.6 x 5). If you enter exercise calories and eat less than what MFP calculates, it will calculate that you will lose more than that in 5 weeks - the additional loss coming from exercise calories.

The exercise is just a goal, it doesn't figure into your calories because it's not guaranteed you'll do it. That is where your activity level comes in. THAT is what sets your calories. I have mine set at sedentary because I work a desk job and I'm sitting for 10 hours a day. Even though I exercise, I don't base my activity level on that, but rather, how active I am on a daily basis WITHOUT exercise. Should you exercise, and you log it, you'll be given additional calories to compensate for that. Some people eat back their exercise calories, some don't. It's really up to you.
