TOM and weight loss

Ladies, does your weight loss screech to a standstill when your period is about to come (TOM was short for time of the month, if you didn't know, lol)? I'm sorry I'm asking such a personal question, but let's face it, for women hormones tend to have a HUGE impact on our weight. My weight loss has completely stopped for the last two weeks. I panicked at first thinking I had done something horribly wrong, but then I looked at my calendar and realized my period is coming...there's a very good chance I'm retaining water and bloating up. :( Anyone else have this problem? Does anything help fix it, or is it something you just have to wait out?

Nope, my weight never stays the same, I tend to gain weight every month. It's so infuriating. But I push through, drink lots of water, try to limit my sodium and when it's over, I usually show a big loss on the scale the next weeks weigh in. Don't sweat it, it works out in the end :)

no worries its just water weight, once you fully understand that and accept it your journey will be much easier :)

I'm right there with ya. My weight loss stops and even appears to increase in numbers. I get crazy bloat. However, once I get to the point in my cycle where the bloating part stops, the scale shows I've dropped 2 pounds (which is safe to say, all the water weight I held). I've been on this journey for 3 months so I've learned not to get too discouraged when TOM comes, because I know it's only a temporary thing. The best part is seeing what I've lost once it's past :)

It happens to a lot of people, yes. You just have to ride it out. If you've been sticking to your plan, you are still losing weight but the extra water is obscuring it. Sometime during TOM week, you'll see a much larger than normal drop when the water finally goes.

Many women also find that the retain less water as their weight goes down. Fat is hormonally active, so when you have less of it, the PMS symptoms can also diminish. Watching sodium and sugar intake all month also helps some women.

I'm on birth control, find that the week I stop taking the pills before my period I gain weight/dont lose. The week of, I lose around 1 - 2 kg and put some back on when I go on another pack!

I just went through that. I try to drink lots of water and try to continue my workouts even if its only 30 minutes. so when its over I see good results on the scale.
