 I need help...I've stuck to my calories this week and have only lost half a pound...why is that...should I be watching the individual levels i.e. protein, carbs, fat etc etc. I'm so disheartened, sometimes I think what's the point of sticking to the calories if it's not working????

Please help...Jayne

You have lost weight. Weight loss is not linear. Water weight can impact 'true' weight loss by quite a few pounds.

We all lose weight at different rates, I sometimes go weeks on top of weeks without a single ounce of weight loss. Just keep working at it and do your best.

Hi Jayne, congrats on the .5 lb loss!!!! The individual leavls your talking about are your macros, they have little to do with overall weight loss but can play a big role in overall health :) mfp sets you at default numbers, which are changeable to fit your specific goals. You can change them to whatever you like, so do a little research on your specific goals and see what it recommends for setting your macros at. Then take a week or so to adjust to hitting those (or coming close) to get a feel for them. You can stick with the defaults too if you'd like :) when I still had a lot to go (before I hit the final 10 lb blues lol) I would notice that weeks I didn't lose or lost very little were usually followed by weeks where I would lose a good bit :) hope this helps, and you can do it!!!! :)

Could be any number of reasons. With a hidden diary and no info on your profile, it's pretty hard
to make a comment. Lots of people only ever lose .5 pounds a week.
And yes it could possibly be your nutrients are misaligned. Lack of exercise? Too many calories?
Lack of calories? How much do you weigh compared to how much you want to lose?
It all varies. But with no information to go on. Only you can figure it out.

    A) Sodium
    B) Not recording calories consumed correctly
    C) Not recording calories burned correctly
    D) Not eating enough

Cant see your diary to confirm, but it's almost guaranteed to be one of the above :smokin:

In addition to one of these:

Could also be down to timing of weigh-ins or dehydration at initial weigh-in.
  • Hi thanks for all your kind words and support. I think I've made my diary public so if any of you could have a look and possibly give me an idea of what I could change, it would help.

I know I don't drink water but I've bought some small bottles today so I have one on my desk at all times.

    Thanks

You have lost weight, it took a while to go on, it is better if it comes off gradually, I had a quick look at your diary, don't think I noticed anywhere where you reached 1200 cals a day. Eat more. Strange but true.

try measuring yourself. me and my sister do a blog on youtube then post on here, i had what i thought was a bad loss recently but had lost inches, whereas the week before i had a bigger loss and lost no inches. Do you exercise? my other particularly small loss was 0.8pound but my scales said id lost 2%body fat but id gained in muscle (it calculates fat water and muscle ) xxx

a loss is a loss, its better than a gain its in the right direction, also make sure you drink plenty of fluids xx

Good Morning, Jayne....Don't stop!!! A couple of suggestions: are you keeping a food diary and going over it? Are you measuring to see if you're losing any inches? Weight loss is a funny animal. It's affected by water, hormones, activity levels and so many other things. The best approach is to keep on keeping on...no matter what. It will come off. I promise! But, do that food journal because if you aren't, you may find there are extra calories sneaking in somewhere you aren't even being conscious of. Statistics show that the people who are most successful at taking and keeping weight off are those who kept a food diary as they went along. So, be encouraged! Jan:smile:

Weird, what do you think MFP is?
  • Hi, thanks for the add joeysox....I do need to exercise, I just haven't got the energy but I suppose I need to force myself to do it. And I don't drink enough water so I guess I need to do that too x

I wonder if you don't have the energy because you are eating so little. Under 1200 and such a small amount of protein. This can't be good for you.

Just FYI..you don't NEED to exercise to lose weight. If you choose to exercise you will need to eat MORE. I would suggest getting your diet under control, finding your correct calories by reading the newbie information stickies in the general topic section. Get your numbers figured out and then adjust them if you choose to exercise. Diet is for losing weight, exercise is for health and body composition. Drink more water and figure out what you 'should' be eating. Baby steps..don't try to do everything at once.

Definitely eat more! More fruit and veg, and plenty of water. Exercise will help and the more you do the more energy you'll have. Start off with short walks and try and do a little bit more every day.

Also, have you set your goals correctly? Might be worth having a look at that.

    a half a pound....I wish I could lose a half a pound....I'm at a stand still...only have a few more pounds to go...not give up.
  • I feel the same way, but stick with it! Your weight is going down, which is great! I know I'm not going to do well this week with this freaking hurricane, but this too shall pass and I'll start again!

Hi and congrats on your loss so far! It WILL continue. You are getting lots of good advice about measuring yourself, water drinking, being patient. A half pound is good. I am now counting in tenths. Ugh!

I looked over your diary for a week. Do eat all you are allowed, never short change your body - it needs fuel. Also, you can set your diary to track other things like sodium, which may be hiding in a lot of the pre-packaged foods I see you eating. I know they are easy, and labeled, and pre-measured, but home cooking is better for you in so many ways. Water retention can frustrate you.

More veggies, more home cookin', don't worry about going over on protein, it fills you up.
