Just curious how Im supposed to figure out how many calories I burned.
For instance... I went for a 1 hour walk with my 4 yr old and the baby (big heavy stroller) and I was sweating hardcore by the time I got home. I figured hey...thats exercise right? So I tried to log a 1 hr walk carrying the 15lbs one but then it asked me calories burned...ummmmm??? No clue! Im going to be getting a pedometer that tells you how many cals burned and going to be doing Jenny Mcarthy Your Shape for the Wii which tells you how many cals you burned. But for other things like running up and down the stiars or an exercise bike ect...how are you supposed to know how many you burned?

I think you just have to put in the time you exercised (60 minutes) and it will calculate your calories for you.0

you can try livestrong.com and they have calculators there that you can use. You will probably hear that you need to get a hear rate monitor. I haven't gotten one yet only because of the price but that would be the most accurate way to find out how many calories are burned regardless of activity. I have just been successful in over esitmating my calories eaten and under estimating my calories burned.0

It should, but I find MFP to be grossly inaccurate (usually by way overestimating). Get a heart rate monitor if you want truly accurate calories burned. Otherwise, you can take your heart rate every 10-15 minutes by feeling your pulse and use the average to calculate calories on a site like this: http://www.shapesense.com/fitness-exercise/calculators/heart-rate-based-calorie-burn-calculator.aspx0

I have never had that trouble good luck though.0

As someone who uses the Kinect games for workouts, I highly recommend NOT listening to what calories they say you burned. On the fitness game, it said I burned about 100 when I actually burned about 300. (I know this because I have a HRM).
On the other note - I highly suggest getting a heart rate monitor! Put the money you would spend on a pedometer into a HRM. I got my Polar FT4 from http://www.heartratemonitorsusa.com/ (specifcally http://www.heartratemonitorsusa.com/polar-ft4f-purple.html) for $61.88 (free shipping!). It's very good and really not much money considering it's an investment.0 -
Instead of entering in a new exercise you do a search for walking and see if any of them include "carrying a baby" or a weight or something. But it will be a guess. If you want to know how many calories you are burning you need a heart rate monitor with a strap. Anything else will be a guess.0

I use RunKeeper to track my walks. If you do it outside, you can track your walk with a smartphone, and it uses GPS, along with the info you input (age, weight, etc.) to calculate the number of calories you've burned. As far as I can tell, it's pretty accurate.0

Oh thank you! I used Your Shape for the Wii forever ago and got really into it and turned it on 2-3 times a day at 30 mins at a time. I dont have the time or money lol...to go to a gym so Your Shape is my only option right now. Its fun! and works your butt off.
Do you have Your Shape for the Kinect?0 -

I agree with those that are recommending an HRM to accurately track your calories burned. I got a Polar FT4 from Amazon.com a couple of months ago and I love it. One of the best investments I've made to help me reach my goal weight.0

It does have the option to log walking carrying an infant lol but it wants to put in how many cals I burn...I think I will soon be investing in a heart rate monitor!0 -

Are you sure you are reading it right? Mine says "minutes performed," when you put in the time, it calculates calories...0 -
