Buy candy that you hate. That way you will not be tempted to steal from the candy bowl. Of course if you have kids tell them to hide their loot!

Ha! I don't buy chocolate for this very reason. This year both my girls will be trick or treating. I am planning to freeze some of the chocolate for my oldest, save a few things like starburst, suckers, etc, and the rest goes to work with my husband.

i can't do that. i give out the good stuff and am very generous. each kid gets 1 fruit-flavored candy and 1 chocolate candy. this year, my bowl is a mix of skittles, mike'n ike, 3 musketeers, and reese's PB cups. i remember what it was like to be a kid and get crappy candy at some houses. i have never been "that house" and never will. i've got enough for 50 kids. hopefully i'll get close to that number and not more, then there won't be much leftover.

A little Halloween candy can be figured into your calorie budget I would think.

The candy will NOT go in my kitchen! Right now the candy we will hand out is in the trunk of my husband's car. After Halloween, kids will get to keep some--and then the rest goes in his car! The family can only eat it when he's home! No candy in the kitchen! Not this year!

Also thinking of allowing myself one small chocolate bar at the end of a day where everything is on track. Not sure I want to do this as eating sugar makes me want more and more! But it's an idea!
  • I have found that the longer I go without eating chocolate the less I want it. It takes about two weeks for me to lose my desire. Plus seeing my weight go down is a motivator to stay away for the candy. If I want some chocolate I find the Swedish chocolate I get at IKEA satisfies me the most.

    Some more Halloween candy tips:

1.) Eat your dinner a little later and also save one of your snacks for right before the handing out the candy. You don't want to be hungry and holding a bowl full of chocolate
2.) During those times when the kids aren't at the door get some exercise in! Jog in place, do lunges to and from the kitchen, get some hand weights (or something heavy) and do some bicep curls
3.) Be plentiful in handing out your candy, it's okay to have to turn your porch light off early. Better that than having full bags left over
4.) Make someone else (probably your spouse) "test" the candy (not sure if this was a ploy from my father when I was a kid or not lol)
5.) Tell yourself the kids candy is for THEM, not for you to pick thru too. Most of it will need to be thrown away anyway (and that's okay!)
6.) If you have left over candy, see what kind of baking recipes you can use with them. Easier to give it away after you've made them even more desirable.
7.) Suck on a hard candy while dealing with the treats
8.) It's a holiday! Have your favorite one! Then give away the rest or hide the flippin' bag! lol
