Losing weight on WAPF diet

I am looking into converting more of my pantry into WAPF staples and eating more in sync with their guidelines. (More animal fat, less carbs)
Does anyone else follow these principles and have any advice? I'd love to peek at your diary and see what you're eating
Thanks!

I do it. Outside of my carb backloads I'm at <20g carbs/day. Look out though, there are posts incoming that will preach to you that regardless of your goals, training, etc, there will be no difference as long as you're in a calorie deficit.0

Oh yeah, the advice part - Eat a lot of meat and don't trim the fat. Animal fat is good. Pretend like you're gluten intolerant and eat a ton of green vegetables. Count net carbs (carbs - fiber) for veggies.0

Thanks! I'm relatively new to eating meat, so that is a struggle for me.
What are your macros set at? I'm having an issue finding a good balance.0 -
I don't use the food log on here, but on a backloading day, It'll be about 200/400/100, on an ULC day, 200/20/50, but it varies quite a bit.
If you get 80% of your calories from meat and green vegetables, you'll be doing it just fine.0 -
Oh, I am very intrigued by Weston Price's work. Is it really low carb though? I mean I know I'm maintaining now, but I've got my fat up around 40% and my carbs are still over 200 grams a day. That doesn't seem low to me, but I never tracked macros before 6 months ago so I don't know. My macros are set at 15% protein (which ends up equating to more than 1.2g/kilo that I weigh) 40% fat, 45% carbs. I have read Nourishing Traditions also, and I didn't really see any anti grain/carb things, just that you need to prepare them in the traditional manner. Which I do sometimes and not others depending on what it is/how far ahead I plan. So I'm not super hard core about it, but I do always eat whole fat dairy and as many whole foods that I can. I have a family, so we still have to have things that my husband wants to eat around the house, and my will power is not so strong that I never eat that stuff. lol
Popcorn is something everyone loves over at my house. 3TBSP of popcorn kernels in a brown lunch sack. Fold over the top a couple times really tight. Microwave 2-3 minutes. Add 2-3 TBSP Butter. Salt if you want. Very yummy!0 -
I'm not sure actually if it's totally low carb. I know you are supposed to sprout or soak your grains. I've been reading a lot about the primal diet and I think I got the two confused a little
What were your macros like when you were losing? Could you share some sample meals? Thanks!0 -
When I was losing, my macros were set 25% protein, 35% Fat, 45% Carbs. I make most things from scratch if I can mostly because I think it's fun. So if my babies want muffins for breakfast I'll use whole wheat flour, whole milk, butter or coconut oil, and yes sugar too (otherwise they're nasty lol) + whatever fruit they want. I'll make my own tortillas. Not bread because everyone hates it when I try to make bread from scratch. XP For our dinners, it's usually a roasted meat or cheesey dish (such as manicotti). My husband and daughter hate beans, but if they didn't I'd like to make those sometimes too (I'd make them now, but my son and I'd be eating a huge pot of beans for weeks, yuck). Then a vegetable or two for sides maybe some bread if I remember ahead of time (this urks my poor husband lol). I'm really not very creative. We never eat a vegetable without some sort of fat on it. Butter or bacon fat or salad dressing usually.
This sounds so boring. haha But I hope I sort of answered your questions.0 -
Thank you so much!! That's a big help I love baking so the cooking from scratch is no problem! I just started my first sourdough starter, hope it works out! Thanks for all your help0

I had to do a search to know what the WAPF diet was. It reminds of the macrobiotic diet only with meat. I did macrobiotic for a while many years ago, but after a while I found it fairly impossible to keep up with all the time. It was just too exhaustive and expensive to get all that local and natural food where I live (though it probably would be easier now that other diets have made this type of eating more popular).
I think it takes a firm belief that eating this way is truly the best or only way to achieve good health to adhere to this type of diet long term. Obviously I lacked that conviction. But I also think trying it was one of the best things I’ve ever done as I still apply many of the principles in my diet and lifestyle.0
