Knock knock.....metabolism, is that you?

Last week was the beginning of my calorie cutting journey. I haven't been religious with counting, however I have cut down my portions tremendously and well.....cut myself off from red wine (ugh - I shudder at the thought). Today has been VERY difficult because my stomach has literally been growling all day long. I'm sitting here just watching the clock waiting for noon to hit. This is not typical, I'm usually never this hungry at 10am, the last 2 hours have been brutal!
Could this be my metabolism peeking out its lovely head? If not - what is wrong with me? :) Has anyone else experienced this soon after beginning their "diet"?

    Your body is used to being stuffed. When you first start to cut back it is normal to have a little rebellion ;) Try increasing your protein at breakfast to stave off the hunger for a little while, also you can add a high protein snack to your morning, a boiled egg is low calorie and a nice bit of protein. And finally make sure you have your calories set right and that you are getting enough to eat.. When I first started trying to cut I ended up cutting too much thinking I was doing well. If you are still 'starving' after the first week you're likely set too low. Welcome aboard and good luck!

    You haven't said how much of a deficit but maybe it's too much? Slower is better than trying to peal weight off quickly.

    Measure and log your food consistently. It is the only way to truly know how what you are doing. Cutting portion sizes is great, but you may still be eating too little or too much.
  • Thanks everyone - my goal is to be more consistent, I'm just not there mentally, not yet. My biggest obstacle was to decrease my portion sizes and then go from there. Once I get into the groove, I feel much more confident about counting because honestly, I have no idea where I was at before....who does?
