Need support?harsh reality checks anything I can get!

Okay started started mfp around 1.5 years ago, at first did really well, my goal is to lose 60 lbs, I lost almost thirty and felt good. Then the plateau...frustration along with arthritis in my spine which when in a bad flare up stops me from exercising, topped off with an under active thyroid. I have gained back all the weight I lost and now have to start over, needless to say I feel so crappy, Dont mean to sound whiney although I know I do. I need some help , encouragement or similar stories...please!

do you have an inversion table. My husband does and it helps with his back issues and flareups. thyroid wise are you getting you labs done often enough? on medication? and also going gluten free really helps

Life always happens when you make other plans. The worst thing you can do is beat yourself up over it. You're human, and as it says in the "don't sweat the small stuff" book - make peace with imperfection.

I've gained and lost more pounds than I can count. But this time is different. I've got arthritis in the small of my back that's bothered me for years. Have you tried B12 or Devil's Claw? there's a certain B12 that's on Dr. Oz's site that is supposed to help with back issues, and it seems to help me. I think he said to use the "methyl-" whaterver it is instead of the "cetyl;". I found it on Vitacost.com for pretty cheap.

You can lose the weight again!! Glad your back on track!

I haven't had the problem of the loss and then gain back, just never lost to begin with. Was at 225 in July and in August said no more and started my journey. I have severe osteoarthritis in my right hip, left knee and lower spine, so i completely understand. But I have also found that if I don't exercise, which I had never done before August, that I am more stiff and in more pain than when I do. So I work thru my pain and do a little less in the way of the impact on my joints but I still manage some kind of exercise 4-5 days a week. Don't overdo and make your back hurt worse, but don't not do at all either. One can be as bad as the other.
  • You can't judge yourself too harshly for it, ya it blows, but the important thing is you're getting back on the horse and educating yourself about your body and what you need to look out for. Everyone has gained it back at some point but it just means we push harder and know a little bit more on how to keep it off. Way to go girl! I gained back all the weight I lost as well this last year, life happens, but I'm more determined now to make a lifestyle adjustment.

first, i would say "no excuses". excuses become a crutch. when you fail, YOU fail. when you succeed, YOU succeed. if you allow yourself to have excuses, then you are allowing yourself to become a passive participant in the process. instead, take charge of the process and "own it". if you stumble along the way, it's ok. own up to it and strive to get better. no guilt. no shame. no searching for an excuse. just understand that you might not win every battle, but you can certainly win the war.

specifically, when your back hurts, find a way to stay on the program anyway. even if that means temporarily reducing your calories due to missed exercise. or finding other exercises you can do that don't stress your back. or, it's ok to take some time off from exercise to heal. since your goal is a change in lifestyle anyway, daily setbacks don't matter too much. there will always be tomorrow to try a little harder.

that would be my advice anyway. every day you can do something. whether its the choices in what you eat or the choice to exercise, they all add up to eventual success.
