What would be more beneficial if I only had 30 mins to work out? Weight training or cardio?

Interval training. The effects last long after your workout is completed.

Go for a circuit training program. Intensity is your friend if you only have 30 minutes. Pre-plan your workout to hit all major body parts with compound movements - i.e. squats, bench, deadlifts, rows / pullups - all tied together with 2 minute bursts of high intensity cardio (step ups, jumping rope, etc.). If you make rest non-existent between exercises, and very minimal (1 minute) between circuits you'll have a great workout. And as MrCook said, it will continue to boost your metabolism throughout the day. Leave the low intensity / long duration cardio for the days you've got a couple hours!
